What did you do in the garden today?

One year we collected a bunch from a friend, took the husks off (definitely need gloves and an acute awareness of potential staining), let them dry out, cracked them and collected the meat. It was a lot of effort BUT when you look at what can be harvested from what most would consider rotting yard waste its very satisfying…..and a blessing.
A lot of people put their black walnuts in a grocery sack and run over them with a pickup to crack those darn hard shells.

We have a BJ’s ( https://www.bjs.com/ ) close by and there’s a Costco like 40-60 mins away depending on route LOL usually like 40-45 mins though but yeah. We used to have a Sam’s Club years and years ago but they closed. They didn’t last long. LOL We do have a Walmart too and Aldi and other local chains LOL

Apparently, Costco doesn't carry them, at least not online.

Those are the ones I buy and freeze. Always…..I mean always…..want to have black walnuts at hand at all times.
I actually overstock on EVERYTHING. I can’t stand needing to run to the store when I decide to cook or bake something. I want all the ingredients necessary in the house when I needed.

Black walnuts seem to be a popular subject. Interesting tidbit about the black walnut world is that there really is only one major player who deals with them "Hammons" they will buy all you can bring to them, they really do not have any competitors that I am aware of.

I got a pretty good amount of stuff today. The green pepper was an unintentional harvest, I knocked it off picking a yellow one. The tomatoes came from a plant grown in full shade and I have been very happy with how well it and the 3 others have done with such little sunlight

I also got a good amount of cherry tomatoes too
