NiceI got sidetracked from my gardening plans. I noticed the garlic heads I saved for planting and decided to break them up, sort them and plant them in the garden.
I got 90 good sized cloves for planting and another 1/2 cup or so of cloves for eating from 13 heads.
I used a 6 inch wide board marked in 6 inch increments to locate the planting holes, using a section of 3/4" EMT for the dibble. 15 rows of six, 90 cloves planted, 6"x6" spacing, 3 to 4 inches deep.
I sterilized/sanitized the cloves in 70% isopropyl alcohol for 15 minutes, but didn't do the soak-in-fertilizer step. Instead I soaked the bed really well with a lot of my 9 month old rotten weed tea fertilizer after planting the garlic. I'll topcoat the bed with compost later on too.
Thanks for this @Sally PB , https://keeneorganics.com/garlic-fertilization-soak/
I even strained and saved the pint of rubbing alcohol I used so I can use it next year.
ETA: The article also recommended using vodka for the sterilization soak. I would have saved that for garlic vodka martinis. LOL

@smokerbill: Those are some great chickenpix.
Good looking birds! Here are some close ups of the earth movers.
They are currently digging through and loosening up a large compost pile. I just show up in a couple of days with my shovel and spread in on my garden boxes. It’s like shovelling potting soil.

I am a pretty good tomato grower! I also grow some varieties I bred from three different heirloom varieties. This year was a tough one for tomatoes here. To hot and humid! They don`t like to set fruit under those conditions! Blight set in early too. We still had a lot of tomatoes but would have had a whole lot more with better weather!Thank you. My tomatoes on the other hand …
This was my first real year trying tomatoes. It wasn’t bad. I am in Canada and the season is short. I have a lot of green tomatoes that I picked today as frost is likely coming. We still had a lot of tomatoes but would have had a whole lot more with better weather!![]()
Any hints on how to ripen them?
