I picked and pulled most everything left in the garden yesterday. We got down to 28F last night, which pretty much means our growing season is over here in northern Minnesota. I got another handful of peppers by letting them sit out in the garden about 4 weeks past their prime. Took the last of the cucumbers in. Found a few hidden squash when I picked up and pulled the vines. There were a few more tomatoes I was able to bring in. But I'm calling it a season.I have some Swiss Chard and Collard Greens still out in one bed. The Chard will survive a light freeze that does not last too long. I might dig it up and transfer it to a pot for inside the house for the winter. I can get Swiss Chard to grow in my southern facing window. It's just not too fast growing inside.
It was a below average year for me this year in the garden. But I learned a few new things that I will try next year. When things go well and I have a great harvest, I convince myself I'm so smart at gardening. Well, this year I did not feel so smart. Next year I'm going to try a few new different things and see how that goes.
I'm already looking forward to next year and putting some of my new ideas to work in my gardens.
I'm sure next year will be the best year so far!
