What did you do in the garden today?

I started a third batch of eggs in my incubator yesterday, just five this time. They're all from my only RIR pullet, one that's been laying eggs regularly since she started a few months ago. I also have five New Hampshire pullets that have pretty much quit laying after having a good start a few months ago.

I have two cockerels, a RIR and a NH and either could have fertilized the eggs so it'll be a mystery hatch. I'm hoping it's the NH cockerel so I get some NH over RIR chicks that'll be more consistent layers after they reach POL.

The eggs she lays have a long and narrow shape, but the shells are solid and the yolk and albumen have been clean, no meat or blood spots.

windchill hit -40 this morning during chores low was -8 without it, our HIGH today is only -2.
Sigh.
Sinus' from going from in and out are screaming.

I found 3 little bags of sprouted onion sets I forgot I had. I'll have to plant them as soon as possible (tomorrow).

It wasn’t absurdly cold yet today so I ran out and got groceries…along with everyone else if the lines were anything to go by. Hopefully that’s all I need to go out for for the near future. This looks like an excellent weekend to stay home and browse seed sites!

Morning Gardeners. We have had cold but dry streak.
Maybe the cold will knock the fleas down a bit.
Going to plant in the spare room can keep the cold at bay there.

-7f this morning. Got up to -1 and is -2 right now. Swapped water for poultry when it was -1 and one coop staged a jail break. I guess since it's sunny. They had been staying in when it was a gloomy 24f.

I got many chilly plants are fruiting in 1 big pot, they were self seeded and now looking miserable because they need room to grow.

Yesterday I potted out 5 of them, and just another ....countless more to do, that is what I will be doing today.

Got groceries yesterday. I do not panic buy but many were. I survived the blizzards of 77 and 78. Took 3 days each time to open roads. No prior stocking. I always have enough for 3 days. 77 no warning not even on the radio while I was stuck in my truck during the blizzard. Took 2 days to get home from work.

Never made it to 0 today. The tank heaters couldn't keep up with the ice formation for the stock. Long cold day. Lots of warm mash and veg for the hens.
Slow warm up to above freezing again by Tuesday.
Minimal snow coming here, for a change.

I went Wednesday for fresh fruit and salad.
Yes I always have at least a couple weeks worth of food on hand. More in the winter. Plus there's 5 extra jakes I need to harvest before breeding season.
Grew up with snow drifting the road shut so bad D9 frontend loaders stuck trying to get to the stuck plow.
