What did you do in the garden today?

I decided today was the day the hall closet was getting sorted. Mostly because I cannot find the mate to a mitten. On the top shelf, which is far above my head, I had boxes of purchased out of season gloves and mittens to replace season torn ones. So I said, hey, why not.

Also up there were two boxes I had tossed up there, one a boot box -great for shipping, the other decorative-saved for gift giving.

WHOA WAY heavier than they should be.
UMMmmmmmm those have been missing for FOUR YEARS!!!!!! I'll toss it all together and see what comes up in the flower meadow for fun. Good luck all seeds!

I was looking in the seed racks for Oriental Poppy seeds. I have orange and would like another color. None in Burpee, Ferry Morse or Livingston. Might need to order but that has failed twice from Ebay. 2 years ago I got red corn poppy and last year I got blue bread seed poppy labeled as Oriental. Might order from Park seed.

I had to take my sprouted lettuce seeds out of the seed cube hole. They were too loose for me. Some of the seed cubes had roots growing into them, but the top part didn't look stable, so I ended up cutting each seed cube in half and moved the extra sprouts into their own cube. I managed to secure 14 plants. Next time, I will start the seeds in a glass petri dish.

I have the best luck with pepper seeds sprouting when I fold them inside a damp-to-moist paper towel inside a flat bottom clear glass candy dish that has a lid then place that on a heat mat. They sprout days before the ones in the traditional sprouting trays beside them on the same mat. Of course, after they break free, I've only got 1-2 days to carefully transplant the strongest ones into soil to finish developing. No worry about too much or too little moisture. No transplant shock and nearly 100% germination. This incubation method works with other types of seeds as well but I especially like it for peppers.

I just ordered these seed cubes from amazon. I think they were about 20 cents each and it comes in a 150-count box. I like how they are sliced on the side.

I bought an 8 pack of this Cattle Drive Gold Chili with beans from my local Costco a while ago and just tried them with a spicy beef sausage the other day. I was impressed with the quality and taste of this chili brand. I usually go to my local Zippy restaurant to order chili, but now I can just open a can.
