What did you do in the garden today?

Put the seedlings outside for the first time today. They got some morning sun and then I tucked them into the shade for the rest of the day.

Worked on the pool today. I was scooping leaves out with a skimmer attachment. I did that for over an hour. Then DH made us go to the pool supply and get a real debris vacuum. Saved me so much time. Worth the money.

Day 2 of boiling sap, I think I’ve done about 35 gallons so far and have another 35ish sitting in a cooler.

Also started some English primrose and zinnia seeds inside. Our pear tree has been looking sad the past few years so I’ve decided to try and clone it with fresh dormant cuttings and rooting hormone. No clue if it will work but worth a try.

Learn to graft. Pear are fairly easy. Rooting pear cuttings failed for me. An easy way to get a rootstock is dig up a small feral/wild flowering pear or buy any pear tree from a box store. Graft onto the new tree.

I’ve looked into grafting before but I just never got around to getting some root stock. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to grab a different pear type and graft it so half produces my old tree’s type and the other half the new type. But where to put the new tree(s) where they are out of the way but still get good lighting… that also goes for the bush cherries and blueberry plants I recently bought. Getting ahead of myself as always!
