What did you do with your flock today?

Well, Stanley was a holy terror yesterday. The terrible teens are definitely here full force! Basically he spent the entire day trying to mate with anything that moved - including Grace. She's so traumatised by the experience she's now refusing to leave the house. Unless, having been humped by a cockerel half her size, it's her street cred she's worried about? :lau
He even tried it on with his dad! That earned him a thorough wing slapping, wattle nip and chase round the run for good measure. Ferdy had to keep an eye on him all day, which he obviously found exhausting as he fell asleep on me within minutes last night. Unless I'm just boring?
Gladys is coming back into lay so she squatted for me yesterday. Stanley, never one to miss an opportunity, decided to sneak under my hand and mount her. Gladys went nuts once she realised what had happened and took off with him on her back. She then threw him over her head. Honestly, it was like watching chicken rodeo🤣

We also caught our ninth rat. DH took it to the release site and rang me to say the rat was stuck in the trap and he couldn't get it out. It had tried to squeeze out through the bars and got stuck by the hind legs. Anyways, I told it to bring it home and I'd try to get it out. Took me all of 30 seconds (he was trying to twist the wrong bars) so now he thinks I'm some kind of rat taming genius as I did it without gloves and didn't get bitten. Poor rat's legs were blue from cut off circulation so I gave them a little massage to help it on it's way. Trouble is, we now have a rat in the garden who'll never go near a trap again so won't ever be caught.

Beebies!! 😍😍 I’m so happy your friends duckies are hatching! ❤️
Me too! I just wish more were hatching. Right now out of 17 that went into lockdown (well 16 because when I candled one I questioned it but gave it some more time and it looked the same with no movement so pulled that one) only 5 have hatched. One more is tryin to zip. The others are a little questionable as to what they are going to do…if anything. But I’m happy I can give her something.

Got some better photos of the crew today, it was very nice out compared to yesterday! No wind, so I was able to do my boys justice

Oh you have some gorgeous babies there!!!
How many ya got total? what kinds?!

Hey quick question...do yall ever rearrange the stuff in your coop/runs? Like everything gets a shuffle to give it a new look, different feel, shake things up a bit?
I made sure they all found where the water is but wasn't sure if I'm doing something good or bad.
I move stuff round regularly. I don't know if it's good or bad but I figure it stops them getting bored and territorial over where the food is. When they're allowed out of the run, I hide food caches round the garden for them to find. It keeps them entertained and less destructive.

I do that quite a bit. They don't seem to mind. They get excited sometimes when my moving things exposes something fun for them, and they always enjoy it when I turn the dirt, which means moving food and water. I think they enjoy just exploring the changes too.

That sounds so funny! Reminds me of when I was little and my brother brought home some chicks from a class hatching experiment. Turned out they were ALL roosters and we raised them with the baby ducks and geese we had at the time. Those roosters kept trying to mate some very uncooperative ducks and never believed they were chickens while they were with us.

Poor rat and poor you! Glad you could save it but yep...not much chance you'll catch it twice. Hope it's a boy at least?
