What did you do with your flock today?

I have missed so much…life is getting all kinds of crazy. I have been able to take out the first 6 chicks out to the coop. They are doing pretty good so far. Of course the one hen low of the pecking order just runs up to them and grabs their neck feathers. Even if they aren’t by her. Go figure. I just keep an eye on them and make sure everyone is still good. Nothing major yet. The babies in the coop are doing really well. I did have to put my Cochin rooster in a dog kennel though. He was getting to be a little mean. He is with the flock still, just not mingling like he wants. I just need him to cool his jets. I also had to make 6 of the girls saddles.

Oh speaking of which, @TropicalBabies, between my mom and myself we were able to figure out what happened to the sewing machine. I was able to sew this last saddle with it, instead of my hand. Hopefully I can start the bags soon too. I still have bags for you also. I just want to make sure I send a good amount to you.

I have a duck laying on eggs outside, I have 10 more chicks about to hatch in a day or so, ducks and turkeys hatching in about 9 days. A goat I’m almost 100% sure is pregnant. I know that some of that on her might be bloat but since only some of it goes away, I’m going with it isn’t all bloat. Infact she seems to be getting bigger. Plus the 4 chicks that hatched from the hen outside. Btw @Gammas Bearded Babies it was my first. I have learned a lesson here and there. She was doing really good on setting on the the day before hatch day and all of a sudden that was it. I think she makes a great mom but I think the chicks running around didn’t help her any. Know how to fix that though next time.

Good morning gang!
Been super busy but def with forward motion. Pulled 1 stand, have 2 new potential spots, sewing like a maniac but have some awesome bags ♡♡♡ sourced 2 new spots for new and different bags yesterday. 👍
Flock is terrific. Emptied out bug trap and zapper. Looks like a good 5 day catch for both.View attachment 3482947View attachment 3482974waste not, want not. Chooks get to bite the squitos back.View attachment 3482950View attachment 3482956Tossed feral roo over fence but he came back so I recaught him in the run half a day later, stuck him back in brooder and will give him a few more days of food and drink and then drop him further away. He is such a lost soul. Thinking he was captured as a chick and raised badly by some kid (probably our back neighbor) then let go. He is a slight thing, a bit of a mess and I'll need to find a nice spot to give him his best chance or just cull him. Bit worried.

It is warming up quick here. Lots to do before it gets too hot.
What a feast for your chickens! Love it!
Poor little guy sounds like he's trying to find a home there! Easier if he wasn't a roo. Good luck with him.

Wow wow wow...your running full steam! 🤣❤️
Adorable everything...don't you love the little mountains the ducks build?
I still haven't bought a companion for our goat Mina. Having her and our horse Jazz keep each other company seems to be working. Id love to get a little boy and have babies again, but truth is I just shouldn't anymore. I might pass before my goat 🤣. So hoping for lots and lots of baby goat pictures from you! 🥰

I gave my chicks a new treat today... a small mint plant with roots and dirt. I don't think they thought much of the minty flavor, though. They like the lemon balm I gave them yesterday much more.

They're all getting more accepting to me, and one of them hesitantly let me pick it up a couple times. It was cheeping nervously, but didn't seem overly upset. It was like she was just wondering what the heck was going on. LOL

Yesterday I installed the last of the hardware cloth over the vents, and today I cut a sheet of plywood in to two 4x4 sections and primed and painted the inside surface a nice, bright white. Should make it easier to see mites or lice running around.

Started them on a new feed, X-cel 20% starter feed. They seem to like it ok, and they're gonna have to because that's all they have.

Tomorrow I'll mount a 24x36 inch dual pane window on the plywood wall section that will be on the east side of the roosting area. They should be able to see the sun rising in the morning if it's not cloudy.

I might even get the walls installed and open the entire coop up for the chicks tomorrow too.

You have been busy!! Goodness! 😍😍 it’s good to see all the adorable babies you have! Goats, ducks, chicks, puppies…I’m jealous! 😍

I love mulberry! We had a big bush when we lived Kahului. Great fruited and yummy smoothies along with finger fruit. I would think it would flourish in your area ♡♡♡ would love one myself but would have to source and then find room. Im sure I could find a spot as it is a winner. Chickens will love it lol
We had a tree in our yard for a long time. I think my dad got tired if the berries staining the driveway, so it got replaced with a Meyer lemon tree. No chickens to clean them up.

Busy, busy, busy! Reading about that made me tired! Spring and babies go together. So glad your sewing machine works properly.

A beautiful, sunny warm 60's today. Little Velma went on a field trip out to the big run today, before I let the flock out. It was fun watching her explore. 4 weeks old. Feathering out nicely, and she's got her cute crest popping up. Looking forward to blue or green eggs. She seems to like riding on my shoulder, which none of my others ever did. Not afraid of my hand, so think I might have a buddy. So adorable!

It is a lot of fun! But so exhausting 🤣. I have turkeys that will be hatching in about 8 days. And in June I have chickens and turkeys coming from a hatchery. My husband has to get busy with the coops 😂
