What did you do with your flock today?

Picked up some more 8-grain scratch today after an outing with my beautiful wife. Now we are sitting down by the coop letting them roam free in the yard.

We have hawks, raccoons, foxes, weasels, and two nights ago, I had to get up and check on the girls because the coyotes were scoping them out around 1 AM. I heard the coyotes "talking" to each other out in my yard. Coyotes could definitely be problematic. Oy vey.

My chickens have cool, fresh water now. I'm trying to get on a schedule, Wednesday and Saturday, to clean the two waterers and refill with fresh water. I guess I'm a day off. LOL. But they were still half full, so no harm done.

I realized that my chickens are like me today. I gave them some scratch, then some moistened crumbles mash. After they were done eating they went under the coop to nap/preen/relax.

Before I fed them six of them went on a walk with me. Yeah, they actually followed me! I walked them down to the north fence, then we meandered over to my compost pile, which they began scratching in. Nope. Not gonna happen. I covered the pile with scraps of fencing. Then we walked a litte further and the chickens took the path into the woods, which was a new experience. They seemed to enjoy the brushy, leafy environment.

I walked back up to the house, and a little later they did their run/fly thing back up to the coop/run area. That's when I fed them.

I'm thinking I need to start treating them differently, because I'm pretty sure they think I'm "their" rooster. When I find a snack for them I point and tap with my finger and they come and investigate. They follow me, sometimes. And my two cockerels, I'm sure, are watching. I hope when they become roosters they don't feel the need to fight me over the hens. LOL

Idk bout that...I'm just praying THEY survive me!

@Shetland lover do I need to withhold eggs or are they ok to consume after having given them Elector PSP last week and Ivermectin yesterday?
As far as I know there's no egg withdrawal period with Elector PSP. Ivermectin has a recommended egg withdrawal period of 7 days. I personally don't observe that as ivermectin has a long history of use in humans as a vermicide and egg withdrawal periods are often given where a product isn't licenced for use in chickens. It's your choice though and if you are at all unsure, I wouldn't eat them for the recommended 7 days.
If you decide to practice egg withdrawal, you'll need to do it each time you treat with ivermectin.

Whatever you decide about eating them yourself, you shouldn't sell or give any away.

Lord God is definitely helping through this that's for sure!
This is the bottle I got based on another post here on BYC...but no idea how to tell a drop...so in despair and prayer I gave em all .5ml on backs of their neck on skin.
They are still alive thank GOD!
After a few hours they were finally back to dust bathing and acting more normal than they have been in a while!
Crowing this morning!
God please help em to survive this and be rid of these things so they'll be healthy and beautiful again!
That's the same strength bottle I use for adult chickens. 0.5ml should be fine. If you'd overdosed them, they'd be showing signs by now. Look out for the following:
Diarrhea, ataxia (loss of co-ordination, balance, muscle weakness), blindness, abdominal swelling, Sudden death.

I've got 6 hens all gone broody while I was caring for Goose. I have such a hard time breaking an egg once they're growing ☹️. But today I'm going to take all the eggs away, candle them and put a few in the incubator. The rest will be fed to the peas. No fun.

Baby peas are doing great! Two more of a friends eggs hatched yesterday and one more Java. So I've got three adorable little babies ❤️. They're in with some chicks to teach them how to eat and they already chase my fingers hoping I'll scoop some food up for them. Seriously cute birds! The one standing tall is my favorite already ands been named Pinon. Keeping that one when we split up the babies!View attachment 3542544View attachment 3542546

Goose is back to playful and properly colored and shaped 💩❤️❤️❤️❤️. He's still trying to regain weight...you can still feel his ribs and backbone, but you can't see them anymore. And he's eating like a horse ❤️. Everyone's just so relieved and giving him tons of cuddles and scritches. I've got the first round of cleaning done and feeling like everything is under control and safe again here. ❤️

Our little goat Mina figured out how to get into the neighbors yard from the horse area. Such a little stinker! It looks like she's climbing the fence...which I've never ever encountered before. But if I let her loose in the main yard...she books it over to the dogs to play chase and head butt them. And most important...she doesn't climb the fence looking for fun. Instead she hangs out by the side door with the dogs...and Jazzy follows and hangs out there too. So now if you walk out that door you get greeted by three dogs, a goat and a horse 😂. O...and one of our old dogs, Fox, has started headbutting Mina back 😂. She doesn't do the rear and head slam...instead she uses her nose to punch the goat. Mina just loves it. She wags her tail, spins, and does the silliest little dance at Foxy. ❤️ When I have some free time I'll try to get pictures. 😃
Oh how, lovely! A little slice of heaven in my eyes 😍

Mine don't think I'm their rooster (except Gladys, maybe. I'm the only creature in the universe she will squat for - poor Stan has to take a flying leap onto her back to do the business and Ferdy is plain terrified to even try 🤣).
And Ferdy and Stan have never even so much as looked at me funny, let alone attacked. What I do though, is give any special treats, like grapes, to the boys so they can dish them out to the girls.

After it was light enough to see, I checked on Hope and her brood. 5 out of 6. I pulled the last egg and candled, tapped... nothing. Broke open to find it was a fairly early quitter. Surprised me as the air sac was nicely developed and contents pretty dark. But veiny yolk was what it was.

Good. Now they are free to wander the pen. I NEED to clean the nest. Despite my spraying, Hope has mites, so now babies do. I did a light spray of mom and 2 hatched babies yesterday but this is going to require a deeper dive.
Hope, though she handled herself well with the flock pre broody, really got bullied when she went to stretch, eat and dust bathe, the last 3 weeks, so I only let her out supervised and well... not enough to fend off mites. Deep sigh. She is a lovely momma so no regrets. Just gotta deal with it.
Look at those darling balls of fluffy cuteness! 😍😍😍

I think you should share too! I'm hungry.... what's for breakfast? 😋
Well, hope all of us beggars did not spoil your first meal of the day. It does look like a lovely way to start the day. Where is the child gang? Sleeping in??!! Ahhh... summer ♡♡♡

Hello! This is a place to post pictures/talk about what you and your flock have done today.

I was on a zoom call earlier and Iris, my rooster, decided to stand behind me and crow repeatedly. Thankfully I was on mute, but it was still annoying. They couldn’t see him, but they could see me trying to make him quiet, which was a little embarrassing.
Here’s a pic of my boy with some mini roses.
