What did you do with your flock today?

Fed them berries, refilled their water bowls. Is Velma (second pic) a cream legbar, or some other breed? Seems to have more brownish feathers than pictures I've seen of CLs (first pic), which have more darker gray feathers on the back, darker tail.View attachment 3573298View attachment 3573297
She could be a gold legbar. They were created as a separate breed in the UK in the 1930's. They have black barring on the neck and are roughly Velma's colours. They also lay white eggs rather than blue.
I've also seen a silkie x light Sussex mix in the exact same colour pattern with a crest.

The green on your ducks!!! 😍😍 you have been so busy! Loooove all the pictures! Sorry about the losses too ❤️
I know right!!! When I first told my mom about them she was disgusted with the idea of them laying black eggs. Now they are her favorite 🤣. She hasn’t gotten to see them in person yet but I’m beginning to wonder if she won’t just taken them and put them on her property! 🤣

I have been extremely busy lately. It always seems like when I think we are done with babies for the year, a chicken or duck laugh at me. I have a cuckoo maran setting on eggs right now that have already started to hatch. I really didn’t think she would go all broody on me, at least not this year.

I didn’t even cover all the losses. 😭 But thank you!

Welcome back! So sorry for the losses but those Sebastopol geese are absolutely stunning 😍😍😍
They look like they're auditioning for parts in Swan Lake with those downy, billowing tutus.
They are really pretty! Thank you! I’m not sure what color the dark baby will be but I’m excited to find out. The lady had mostly all white but 1. It looked like it was maybe a buff or grey saddleback. Which makes not knowing what color that much harder to sex. Oh well, time will tell!

Home and got some time in the nice weather and all the chickens look good and happy! Except for Blossom the sick one.

I was enjoying the bantam babies and casually glanced over my shoulder and one of my chickens was not a chicken at all…but a gray rat just happily eating some scratch with the chickens 😡😡😡 Once it registered it was a rat I yelled at it and it just looked at me like…what? So I made the pssst noise and it finally ran off…only to do this about 2 mins later—the little jerk!

So I got the hose and sprayed at it with the jet spray and it finally left, but dude was not at all scared of me 😑

I also moved a bunch of the babies that were WAY overdue to move out. They were very excited and freaked out all at once.

And poor little Blossom, the sick one. I don’t know what she needs to get better 😫

Your babies are beautiful. I'm so sorry about Blossom.
Maybe you can invite that friendly rat into a trap. What an audacious bugger.

Must feel wonderful connecting with the flock again ♡
