What did you do with your flock today?

Wish I had know about this before I lost my most loved scissorbeak pulled a while back. If I had taped her like you did my may could have saved here. She had more out of alignment problems that here beak I think. Her keelbone didn't line up either. She may have had more problems internally not visible. She never laid an egg but was a pet like I had never had before. She loved to keep me company.
Not sure it'd work on all crossbeaks and I definitely wouldn't tape if the bird acts like correcting the alignment hurts. This birds beak had only been crossed for a week and was from an injury. Suddenly occuring crossbeak. If the cross had been there longer or developed slowly I wouldn't have tried. Slow developing crossbeak means something's going on inside the bird that needs addressed.

Sorry you lost your girl... sounds like she was special ❤️

Editing to add that a suddenly occuring crossbeak can get worse over time...so maybe the best qualifier would be to just say it probably won't work if the bird acts pained from the beak being held in proper alignment.

Thought you guys might enjoy this. Friend brought me a crossbeaked chicken to try helping. Here she is while still at her home.View attachment 3591917
Started taping her over night to align the beak. First tape job with moleskin.View attachment 3591918
Modified tape the next night to keep her from removing it. Switched to PT tape and it stays on the beak great.View attachment 3591920
Beak alignment after a few days. Shes very grey here because I dusted her with DE.

I'm so tickled it's working ❤️
That's pretty amazing how you corrected the crossbeak. Your explanation in the previous post was very informative!

My girls never stop trying 😂

I have had my Cochin bantam girls go broody 2x this year, a Cuckoo Maran, and now I’m thinking I have a Barred Rock wanting to go broody. I can’t get them to stop. Which would be ok if I could sell my boys too. Which seems to be all I hatched so far this year. Except my ducks, they are giving me a lot of girls. I was able to pair up with a friend (the lady I got them from) so we can sell her boys and my girls together.

Your babies are so cute!! I wouldn’t mind having a bunch of them running around! 😁😁

Amazing! Do you just put the tape on overnight?

I've never tried chicken diapers. Looking forward to hearing how it goes! Lucky little girl ❤️
Mine really didn't take to them at all! I had better success using a small pair of ladies underwear and a dust mask. The idea is the wings go through the leg holes, you gather up the excess over the back and fasten with a safety pin or similar and use the dust mask in the back to catch the poop. I used toddler underwear for the bantams.
As there's only Ferdy (and occasionally Stan) gets past the kitchen these days, I don't bother now.

You can find them on Walmart's website and Etsy I'm told. Don't know where she ordered from and she's looking for patterns so she can sew more. She said something about maybe Pinterest may have patterns posted but if so she has not said so.
There are patterns on Pinterest. That's were I got my pattern from.

I've only had Penelope go broody so far. Pru has usually been broody at least twice by now! I'm wondering if it has something to do with the poor weather we're having?
