What did you do with your flock today?

I'd like to build a bunker with underground coops as we are well above the flood plain. For a few we could do just that over time. Considering our age we are probably going to down size and get a trailer equipped with mini coops big enough to travel north and back home when the coast is clear.

Power is back.
I'm glad your power is back! And an underground bunker would be great - but we are at sea level here - so that's not an option.

Yes. I've been putting the frozen ice bottles in their water. They drink it up. Today, I was trying to teach one of the babies to stand in the water to see if it would cool her off. The baby roo flew at me and landed on my head. I'm hoping he's not going to turn out to be a jerk who attacks people. They are 8 week old cream legbars and today was their first big day out.
I have heard great things about cream legbar roosters! ❤️ They sound like a fun bunch!

Both my boys get seriously into the egg song. Not sure why as they don't really contribute to egg laying - apart from keeping the girls company!
Penelope still occasionally does a full-on cockerel crow. It's so convincing, I thought it was Ferdy until I caught her in the act.
Ferdy's super-happy noise is just like an old-fashioned whistling stove-top kettle. Stan is starting to mimic it too. They both do a crazy noise like a helium balloon deflating, not quite worked out what that means yet! 😁
Yep, that's the other crazy sound. Like holding the neck of a deflating balloon. Not sure if Houdini has a happy noise.

Thank you. The oldest are just 8 months. The whole run is covered. We just brought them some cold water but I cannot get them to stand in it. I've been trying to get them to use it all summer. I also just brought out some frozen veggies. I also have put out frozen ice jugs and cold water but they won't lean on it.
I have also wet the ground for them, as it will also cool their feet somewhat.

Onyx here. I got busted in the garden again because I opened my big beak. I love digging around in the straw by the potatoes. Mom got me lured back in the yard, and I was starving, so I went to eat. While I had my head in the treadle feeder, she snuck up caught me. Now my wings are clipped, and she fixed the netting by the pear tree. Let's see where I can escape to next. Tee hee!

Rocky didn't get his personal breakfast this morning and he stood at the door tonight reminding me I was slacking. I brought the big boy in with me and let him sit in my lap while he was treated to a slice of multigrain bread. He scares me the way he can guzzle that down. In the morning he might get a scrambled egg. Rocky is a beautiful White Rock Rooster that was rehomed with me because he was being naughty. He's a lover boy now. I told him tonight I was building a chicken hotel and he would get the manager's office.

I would love to see a photo of rocky in your lap eating toast!
