What did you do with your flock today?

It has been pretty wet and wild here all day. I'm loving it. Should just be regular wet weather the rest of the week. Sending it your way @PopoMyers View attachment 3722293

This is on my way picking up a friend's sick chicken while she is off island for work. Litterly in a cloud 50 feet above sea level. Missed it in the photo. So, RSL and a repro issue. Her eyes are still bright ♡ also picking up another foster kitty tomorrow, installing a rack on my son's bike and cleaning my aunties friends house. Don't know how I keep getting sucked into that one... but I do.

Been super busy here. Cleaned coop, nestboxes and changed materials, filled feeders plus tidied up the run the day b4. Great timing did not expect the rains to be quite this heavy.

Good luck everyone with the winter weather change. Momma earth needs to chill. Loving all the fun posts. Good stuff. 😁🤙

Saturday I took off for an early morning ride on Honey. I left while the stars were out and made it to the east side to see the sunrise and then off to the north shore. Brought a thermos of coffee, a canteen of water and 2 granola bars so I could share with feral chickens when I stopped. Great time, made it home before lunchView attachment 3722291
Thank you, the wonderful after storm calm. Our winds and rain were wild and torrential last night, and now there's blue sky clearing. Still gusty at times. Torn tarp on the motor home so it needs replacing before the next rain event. The roof or vent has a leak.
The girls' covered run got wet from the sideways rain last night. Hopefully it will freeze dry this next week.

In my thoughts, these weather events are cleansing for the earth, taking down weak things like some rotted trees and pruning branches, and freezing out the bugs and fleas, washing the surface. Yes, inconvenient and at times threatening and dangerous for humans and domestic animals, but I believe necessary in the cycle of the environment, by design.

You are such a compassionate and generous person, it's no wonder you are busy helping the numerous people and animals that come your way, and assisting in their support. I need to get back to making things out of the bags I have saved. Sounds like your ride was delightful!

I spent a big part of the day looking for Linda the rescue chicken! She still hasn't integrated with my flock and being a bantam OEGB can jump my 8 ft fence quite easily! My flock is small consisting of Dipper EE/Austrolorp Roo, Mabel mixed flock mystery hen, and Lazy Susan SLW.
They aren't chasing her anymore but she also doesn't seem to want to hang out. Eventually, I heard a kerfuffle and found her sitting on the fence.
Then I pied pipered them into their run View attachment 3722001View attachment 3722003because a huge storm is rolling in!View attachment 3721997
Glad she was found. It is very sad when they become loners. I got a rescue chick last spring, and she was always pecked and alone. She became a target for a predator just after she bagan laying. Everyone who has been on here remembers Velma, the one on my avatar.

This is from the label. No lactose or cow milk in the ingredients. Selenium and probiotics. The fermented feed mash is also what she has been liking. One day I washed out the container to make new, and she basically went on a hunger strike until it soured. Yep, getting a 'tude.
That stuff looks good....I just hope Olena agrees 🤣. Sounds like she's getting quite spoiled...a little queen in a sling!

I've brought Honey in for the night to stay safely in her kennel. Before that I Had my boy Legs in my lap for some one on one visiting. Tonight he wouldn't touch a tree. He just stood on my legs as I sat in my chair taking in the coop scenery. He put his chest on mine and rested that long neck of his over my shoulder. When it was time for him to go back to his coop I sat him on the arm of my chair while I put my boots on. When I got back to my chair to pick him up he had not move an inch. He waited patiently to get back to his roost along with Mr. Muff. I need to start bringing Mr. Muff in at night for a bit a few times a week. Mr. Muff is another special boy that calls the girls to food and lets them eat before he will touch a bite of it. Some how I've got to get a good photo of Mr. Muff. He is a really handsome lad.

Thanks for your vote of approval. She may not think she is spoiled, more like stuck in a hospital bed, frustrated because she cannot do her normal chicken-y things. She dislikes being put back in it after being out while she has PT, or just laying on her side or squatting on the floor, with help. Yeah, she is spoiled. Doesn't have to fight anyone for food or treats. Her face and breast feathers are getting just a bit dried food stuck on them. She can only preen the right side, now does the chicken shake out as best she can, and her feet are more under her than stretched out to the front while in the sling. Working on balance, left leg strength and mobility in general. Long process. She may not want to go back outside. With clipped wings she may not be able to fly up on top of the coop like before, so poor thing will just have to roost in the normal place with one other hen. Today she perked up and watched DH walk across the yard from her 2nd floor glass door. She can sometimes see her flockmates out in their run from here, too.

He sounds like he is becoming a sweet boy. That picture in my mind warms my heart.

Poor girl. Sudden disability is always hard on the spirit. I'm glad she's a trooper and keeps trying ❤️

Biscotti says he's getting too old to cuddle babies in the basket anymore. He wants to pop out and explore a bit.

But he still gets cold quick. He's decided he likes my neck to warm back up.
