What did you do with your flock today?

I loved Foghorn Leghorn as a kid! I too spent more hours than was probably good for me watching Warner Bros cartoons.
My younger brother was scared of Marvin the Martian, to the point I had to watch with the volume off while he buried his head in the sofa cushions.
My husband can do Marvin the Martian and Yoda voices.

The cutest chicks 😍
Thank you!

I'm at the auction house, they'll start in about an hour.

Two of my boys, sandwiched between rabbits and ducklings.

Hopefully they'll get a good home, they're too small for soup!

We do auctions here on Saturday as well! If either of our chicks turn out to be boys that’s where they’ll be headed as well 😅
I hope they find great homes!!

I hope they have a great home. There were a lot of roosters and cockerels for bid, and mine only brought $3 each. At least it paid for my gas.

I've been dealing with rooster issues too. Apparently 2 is one too many in my little flock. The cockerel has been moved to his own coop and run for now. He seems quite content there at the moment. What I need are more hens. I do have a broody. Perhaps she'll produce a few. That would certainly be nice. Haven't had great luck with getting fertilized eggs though, which is why I'm hoping that eventually I can manage both roosters. I've done it before, but every rooster is different, so we'll see.

Why am I laughing so hard at the 1/2 brain cell part of this? 🤣🤣🤣
He literally couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag! 🤣
Last week, I had a large, empty paper grocery bag on the kitchen floor. He jumped into it from the bin, rooted around for a few seconds, got bored and...realised he didn't know how to get out. The next thing I know, there's a paper bag doing an impression of a whirling dervish across the floor, containing a shrieking cockerel 🤣🤣🤣

I really hope they can learn to get along, it's awful when they just can't.

Ferdy's dad, Sylvester, was raised with my other roo, Leo (they were bought as 6wk old 'pullets') and got along famously until they got to roughly 9 months. Then they couldn't stand the sight of each other. We ended up rehoming Leo as he was a large Swedish Flower and would have ended up killing Sylv and my bantam girls. It was heartbreaking.

Apart from a couple of months when Stan kept challenging Ferdy, the pair of them get along pretty well. They have a coop each and the girls sleep where they want. In practice that usually means Gladys roosts with Stan (the only cockerel she's ever tolerated) and Pru and Clara with Ferdy, although occasionally they sleep with Stan too. We have things set up so I can separate the boys in an instant, if required. I too, need more hens. Both boys are very fertile (judging from the eggs I'm using) but DH refuses to let me set any in case we hatch more cockerels.

I'm thankful that I found a way to rehome my cockerels, six so far this year. Since Zacchaeus is only 3 months old and Silas is just 7 weeks old I won't have any fertile eggs for at least 3 months, when the weather gets cool.

I will wait until Spring before I allow any hen to hatch a brood.
