What did you do with your flock today?

Nothing today I’m on holiday in turkey left them with my sons to look after worried they won’t check on them like I do I’m looking in on them about 4 times a day they have automatic doors huge feeders and waters my sons will collect there eggs and keep eye on there water tanks I’m only away 7 days but freaked out leaving them incase my sons forget to check they won’t be looking in chatting to them like I do probably only go collect eggs every two days worry about them more then my kids 😅 my sons are 21 and 35 but not interested atall in my chickens they say there spoilt 😂
IMHO chickens only exist to be spoiled! Mine do anyway. DH says I look after mine better than I do him and he knows exactly where he is in the pecking order 🤣
Relax and enjoy your holiday.

I've been feeding ripe tomatoes to the flock daily as our plants are producing well. I gave the hens and chicks tomatoes after lunch today instead of suppertime. When I went out in the late afternoon Rahab followed me around, being vocal. She even hopped up on a block to be eye level with me at one point. I think she was reminding me of my grape/tomato obligations. :gig

Sounds like they've been giving you the run-around! So sorry you lost two girls but glad to hear Onyx is doing so much better. Great to her from you!
Thanks! It's been a crazy busy couple months trying to get everything ready and scheduled to be gone for two weeks. My raspberries, snow peas and lettuce were maturing while I was gone, so missed the latter two. It got hot here, so those matured really fast. Still picking berries, and now plums are coming on strong.

I am amazed that Onyx is growing in her new feathers and doesn't look raggedy any more. Just the tail and wing feathers to go. She is more spunky, too. Make me 😊.
How is your garden doing?

I know how that feels! Every one of my boys and girls reminds me constantly of my grape providing obligations. Gladys even goes as far as standing in front of the fridge in the kitchen, gazing up at it longingly. If I don't take the hint, she starts pulling at my clothes, burbling sweetly. If that doesn't work, she'll get in my face and scream. Pru will also stand by the fridge and jump up and down on the spot until I give in and break out the grapes. Whoever said chickens weren't smart? 🤣
Mine only like tomato seeds though, won't touch the flesh 😔

It's a bit of a mixed bag to be honest. We lost our polytunnel in the high winds we had so our greenhouse tomatoes are struggling without protection from the copious rain and lack of heat. Our squash isn't doing great either for similar reasons. Most of the salad crops are bolting due to all the rain then odd periods of a few days heat. Chickens are reaping the rewards of that, though!
The beans, peas and agretti are good, as are our gherkins and cucumbers. Sweetcorn is slow.
Best things this year have been the soft fruits. We've literally been buried in currants, strawberries, raspberries, tayberries, gooseberries, and jostaberries. Our trees are laden with apples too and there's lots of grapes forming. No quince though 😫

All this garden talk is making me and my chickens jealous and hungry. It all sounds so wonderful and to take the time to garden sounds even more wonderful. Bravo peeps.
Our papayas and soursop have been steller and now our starfruit trees are loaded. Oh!!! And this is the first year that the dragon fruit is holding its blooms! Of course, these plants have required little of me, (except water and patience) so I don't feel I am in the same gardening category as you all. I just enjoy perks.

Life here has been busy. We have had a series of fires, outtages... just weird stuff that calls for adjustments and is frankly, exhausing.
1000006669.jpg

Fire lasted for a few days and burned some serious acres. Helicopters where whirling and dumping and roads were closed....
It was at the end of my trapping and feeding days, so im usually exhausted anyways. My town was fillled with smoke and we all were happy the winds mostly stayed on the light side and from the west.

We got a pass to go up the closed road so I could feed chooks and grab kittens. Knowing they could close road and i could be stuck. Photos dont do justices, plus i was riding my xt250 down.

The cabin has not had any water for over a week now, due to water tank repairs. So I was hauling water from the stream for the plants and chooks.

I actually befriended and trapped a male calico at the papaya farm. They are like 1 in 30,000 I guess.

He now stays with us. My feeding stations are paying off big time, still no Foreset, but I am not giving up, just doubling down. I took another 8 of Kauai's cats off the breeding roster. And 2 more kittens off the streets, one very sick, but now safe, fed with vet care. These will be adopted into homes in Seattle.

Brooder is being put to good use still.

I spotted 2 more kittens last eve. May be orphans, but of the age that is okay to trap so I'll get them tonight 🤞
My chooks are fantastic. I spy on them with cameras lots. Egg quality is terrific. I look forward to seeing them in about 1 hour!!! 🐔💕

Love the pictures, gorgeous lizard.

From what I recall reading, calico males are generally sterile, like mules.

@fuzzi I believe this one made a few babies... probably wrong but Banana looks just like him.

Acts like him too. Maybe same dad... who knows? Does not matter any more as he is now fixed 👍
Papaya is a total cruiser. He and Elliot have been totally relaxed around each other. Please dont judge my floors 😂

Went up to check the chooks. Water is still off so I filled their waters from the stream again.

Bout as pure and as close to the source as water can get ♡
Heres my path....

Chooks are terrific living the life. 10 beautiful eggs so far today. Beetle is doing a perfect job caring for the ladies.
