What did you do with your flock today?

Bad 😭 Somehow she's in more pain than before she laid her egg....When she strains, she closes her eyes and clucks in pain, someone told me that the prolapse would go back in but it's not....Thinking about the vet. I want to push it back in so badly but I don't want to irritate it more than it already is.....Do you think another egg could be coming???
If you have a vet who sees chickens, I would take her in at this point. The poor girl. It is sooo hard to watch them in pain.

But a vet is not an option here. We don't have a single one who treats chickens in this area. That's odd to me because we have a few fairly good sized chicken farms, but I suppose they treat their own, or maybe just cull the sick ones. I don't know, but I had a sick chicken once and wanted a vet to look at her, and no one would. One vet would run a test on her droppings for worms and that was all. So, like you, if I have a sick hen, I come in here and hope someone can give me good advice.

I guess it could be a possibility if she doesn't lay the egg by tonight...
I've tried pushing it in and holding it closed, rinsing it out with glucose water, smothering raw honey and cortisone cream on it to reduce the swelling, I'm smashing up calcium pills and putting those in her food. Didn't try the bath because it's definitely a waste of time, so I went right in for the more invasive method. She's had about 3 pills worth of the powder in her food (that is if she eats all of it...) She is REALLY straining this morning and when she does strain her prolapse gets humungous...I hope she's trying to push the egg out?
Have you tried popping the calcium tablet in the beak? They can swallow it. Epsom salt bath soak? Preparation H without the lidocaine. Hope your girl passes the egg. Keeping her in a dark room, and feeding her cracked corn should keep her from producing more eggs.

It's possible. I see that you already seem to have her in the dark. My hen had a bad prolapse and vent gleet that took 3 weeks to heal. It takes time for the swelling to completely subside. Meanwhile keep on treating. I had to soak mine 2x day, Preparation H after the soak. The epsom salt will also help the tissue, and perhaps lay the next egg.

Today, I let Edie paint.

Do you have her on a leash? Fascinating.
In my neighborhood, the chickens have to be in a pen at all times, they are not allowed to wander loose. To keep her from breaking this rule, I put them on leashes when I bring them out to work with them. Sometimes I take a group of up to four out at a time to let them forage.

I used to live in a neighborhood where I couldn't allow my cats out of the house unless they were on a leash. I had one that wanted out in the worst way, so I would walk him. Pretty interesting walking a cat. They don't go in a straight line like a dog. Has to be much like that with chickens too.

Yeah, they do tend to go everywhere!

Oh wow 3 whole weeks? Did you have a vet look at it or did you wing it? No pun intended lol. Yeah I'm trying to have her in the dark, but then I was thinking, if I actually want her to lay that egg then why not let a little light in? I tried the soak 2 times, she kept flying out, getting her poop on me.....Was there anything else you did to help the prolapse? Also, can I use Vetricyn cuz I don't have Preparation H.

I've always wanted to do this with my chickens!! What paint did you use and how did you "motivate" them to go on the canvas? The only thing that coaxes my chickens is food.....But I don't want to put their food on the canvas.
