What did you do with your flock today?

I checked leg bands.

First I sprinkled at my feet some shredded cheese bits (from the bottom of a bag), and picked up each chicken as they crowded around. Joanna, Priscilla, and Silas needed a looser band. Esther's was okay. Martha's band was missing, and Hannah's was very faded, so they each got new bands as well. I didn't check the Dominiques, it's easier to do that at night, plus I don't want to agitate Abigail due to her hard molt right now.

Joanna (almost 4 months old)

I didn't replace Zack's leg band the last time I checked and removed it for being tight...I know which one he is!

I've started turning my Saipans and Cream Legbars out for the playground time. I'm letting a Delaware hen share the coop with them. When she went into their coop to roost we didn't know why but later when here old roost mates found her out side they started picking on her so now we know why she was needing a safe place. She is nannying the kids just fine. By now she has taught them to use the roosts instead of crowding together on the ground. These kids hatched on the 23rd of July.

Is diarrhea normal?

My 6, (12 weeks old), get a treat a day, when I go into the run to turn their straw, and some foods seem to cause it more often then others.

Tomatoes, and now pumpkin come to mind.
It doesn't seem to happen with greens.

I left the pumpkin in the run anyway. Surely they know when enough is enough. I put my "chicken jeans" in the wash. 😊

Chickens can get the runs if they some new veggie, or too much of some veggies or fruits. Nothing to worry about, but it can make their butt feathers messy, and could attract flies in warmer weather.

I gave my chickens an apple each today and they're probably used to them by now. They each get one or two per week.

Hello! This is a place to post pictures/talk about what you and your flock have done today.

I was on a zoom call earlier and Iris, my rooster, decided to stand behind me and crow repeatedly. Thankfully I was on mute, but it was still annoying. They couldn’t see him, but they could see me trying to make him quiet, which was a little embarrassing.
Here’s a pic of my boy with some mini roses.

What about you guys? Have you done anything interesting with your flock today?

Here are a few pictures of my birds.

I have 6 chickens and 3 teenage chicks and the 3 chicks( 2 hens, 1 rooster ) finally hit puberty and went from cheeps to little raspy clucks!!! And these 3 chicks are some of the most docile chickens! We ( me and my dad ) got 3 hens and 1 rooster for free from one of his coworkers and we already had some chickens - some casualties, but ours were already peaceful but feisty chickens and when we got the others we mixed them up and when one of our chickens had 3 chicks with our new rooster they turned out so peaceful and they just run up and let me pick them up! Even the rooster! This just shows and proves that the way you raise and animal really effects its personality!

My LBs. They are getting so big now. Sesame is always chasing his ladies around and scolding them for getting too excited. Dumpling is the smallest of my LBs and she is pretty chill. Fajita is a bit bossy. She seems to be trying for HHIC.

Thanks. You're right.. I remember a youtube on Edwardian or Victorian farmers, and they were afraid to feed young children fruit, because they mistook regular "runs" for dysentery.

Do you core the apples? I read once that the seeds aren't good for them. I have an old apple tree full of fruit, and it would be nice to be able to just toss a 1/2 doz. in the run.

I have apple trees in my chicken run, so they naturally get any apples that fall. I've never had a problem. I don't take the seeds out.
