What did you do with your flock today?

@FrankieDoodle - Well, at least you know youll know for sure in a few months. LOL

@TropicalBabies - I'm really happy for your boys finding a good home. I know how torn I'll be if I ever do have to rehome one of my boys. I mean, we will be using our chickens for meat as well, but these are my first real flock members, so I kinda have a soft spot for all of them.

What did I do yesterday? I installed a new low hanging swing in the run. Later, I was upstairs in my office. I saw from the window that one of my favorite pullets tried it out and made me realize why I've never seen them on the other swing. She was having a terrible time with the swinging action and eventually gave up. O later went out and secured the bottom of the swing line as well, so it only has very minimal movement now. More like a lightly gliding roost bar now.

Today DH will be installing more hotwire so we can get the dogs and livestock back in the barn at night. Since their fence-jumping escapades, they've been consigned to the old hotwired paddock during the night (they get the whole area during the day because there aren't predators to chase off during the day). We hadn't had it turned on since we got Finn back in March, but it has done the trick for preventing more jumping since we turned it back on. Poppy was already familiar with hotwire, so she only needed Finn to touch it once for her to steer clear of it. Finn, however, tested the wire a handful of times before he realized it wasn't just ouchy in one spot. But we need to get them back in the barn because we've got an icestorm coming tomorrow night and the paddock they're in only has a small 3-sided lean to type of shelter. The thing is, I'm not even sure the new hotwire will need to be "hot" now that the dogs have had 10 days of re-familiarizing themselves with what it feels like to touch it when its turned on. But we'll do our best to get it all done before the storm hits.
Very true. Let’s just hope the suspense doesn't kill me before then. XD

Lovely. Just lovely. I have a relative there.
There seems to be a thread between AK, WA, CA and even CAN to and with Hawaii. Ya, ya, Westcoast... but a little more, like cousins. Do you know what isle?
You literally live in paradise.
Ya, was hoping the share would scare away some winter blues (or white, grey and brown). Many of you folks I am sure are ready for your spring. 🌱🐛
Winters are fabulous here, like many other people's spring. We have not really gotten our rains yet. Sure they are coming soon.

@FrankieDoodle it's so good to see Papa Smurf ♡♡ does the heart good.
@Chicken poppy your girl is beautiful ♡
have one hen who goes far too far afield every single day. I swear she is determined to become coyote supper.
Too funny... I'm sure one day she will get her wish 🤦‍♀️. How's the electric fences and that whole ordeal? I'm sure it is a good investment in the long and short term.

@PJ you are such a resourceful gal and a wealth of info ♡ but I think your outside kitties are mean lol. Probably fabulous mousers and ratters though 🤔, I am sure...

So picked up the Zombies @ 5pm. They were really upset so instead of bringing them to my pals like planned I brought them home to eat and pee and settle but they never did the whole night. It was awful. They growled and hissed and hated each other. They also climbed and complained a lot. I had first put them in the XL+XL cage but they were more or less freaking out in it, so I brought them inside where they seemed calmed- other than the hating and growling... jumping and very over active... ugh, totally exhausting and a complete 180 of how they really are.
I really missed my chickens yesterday. It was a long day with small adventures and a few chores. Making it home, seeing the crew and opening up the run just made my world round. That is what it is all about... chickens♡

Hey well got up early had one cup of coffee go like a batt out of yup.. Safeway to get pneumonia shot set it online they sent me two reminders one text also .. Did get there 10 minutes late .. They send me to the room they do shots in .. Sit there 10 minutes.. Pharmacist comes in .. " We have had a new vaccine for 2 days but no directions how to use it"
Now they have 3 ways to contact me. Takes a hour to get there.. Did they bother to say in those 2 days before ?

So, a Wilco ad had me looking at chicks last night. Chicks are alluring, but I think I need to wait for a few months until it gets warmer. I don't want to have a heat lamp going, nor chickens in a bedroom, etc. Apparently, the groundhog found we will have 6 more weeks of winter. Been cooking Chinese food like a mad woman. Happy Lunar New Year! Now to go out and feed my girls the scraps. Are we having snow tomorrow?
