What did you do with your flock today?

Morning all! I have 2 baby d'Uccles this morning (so tiny!!) and a third I am not sure will survive. I am almost certain one egg is dead in the shell, but the cochin egg has pipped and the last d'Uccle egg was still moving but hasn't externally pipped yet. I am trying to keep a close eye on the one I think is struggling...the yolk sac hasn't been absorbed yet. It's still breathing and chirping and I assist hatched it until I noticed the egg sac--so I put the baby back in the half shell and tucked it in a soft bed so the other babies that hatch won't peck at it. I guess if it's strong, it will make it through eventually. If not, I will humanely cull it. :(

Also, I gave Fuzzbert and Betty one each of the Polish chicks, however now Fuzzy has both of them. :)

Beautiful babies @kurby. Love your happy!
Good job @PJ . Hope all is settled and pup safe and well.

All is lovely here. Adoptees are quick to settle and look a little ok with things.
Sick hen is now 100% out and normal for now. Chicks are adorable. What I did and will do is admire and enjoy my chooks, clean poop boards, change bedding for chicks and gave them shaving for the first time. Good fun. And will pound a few posts in so I can hang a gate for shade. What? Sounds weird but hope it does well till I get something prettier in.

Good morning gang and happy 🌺Aloha Saturday!
My chicks are great. Flock is great. Ka'iulani is out and about more and more. Would like her to be a little faster with more poop so then I will worry less but probably you can not tell what buff does not feel well in this photo ♡ idk, expert eyes maybe you can lol but she is on the upswing still and that makes me happy.View attachment 3015038
I'm happy to hear Ka'iulani is getting better! How is she today?
Today was interesting in many ways.

I dug the remaining holes for the 12 fruit trees we got. I still have the holes for the various berry bushes, but I felt a sense of accomplishment getting this much done. I'm exhausted though.

Then DH and I went to check out peacocks and decided to build an enclosure and get chicks this summer or next. Apparently, peafowl hate snakes and will not tolerate them in their territory. I'm all for that attitude!

We played our favorite board game for a few hours. While playing, a poor juvenile woodpecker smacked into one of the sunroom windows and knocked himself silly. The guineas kept eyeing him, so I went out to check on him so the guineas wouldn't attack him. He was pretty stunned, but alive, so I was able to gently pick him up and quickly place him in the crook of a tree. Half an hour later, he had flown away. But I got to hold a wild woodpecker and be part of helping him recover. That was just an awesome feeling.

Then this evening, without any notice we suddenly got a tornado warning. The tornado was over us within half an hour. We do not currently have a tornado shelter, but we do have a closet under the stairs. We call it the "Harry Potter closet". It went right over our house, but by the grace of God we and our animals were spared. While we crouched with our dogs inside the small closet, we decided that reprioritizing was in order. A storm shelter will now be our next major expense.
Thats terrifying! I'm so glad everyone is okay.
Just got back from picking up the 2 Cornish ladies. Gave them a bath, washed poopy butts and checked them over. 3 bumble feet and they are fat, lots of baldness on the behind. I assume from feather picking. So, freedom from living in a cage 24/7, deworming, decent food and friends is their new future. They went straight for the dirt and I am like great. Welcome home ladies ♡ Good news is no louses. We will figure out the rest as we go. Other good news is DH did not say a negative word 😮 shocking.View attachment 3017782View attachment 3017783
Poor babies! I know they're going to be really happy living with you. ❤️

@kurby22 congrats on all the chicks! I'm loving the pics. ❤️ ❤️

I got all four of the pigeons to eat out of my hand. I also got King Louis on my shoulder, but that was a complete accident. He climbed up there while I was holding him. I don’t think it was what he planned, but it was cute. <3

The babies got to go out in the grass before the big girls were let out for pics. They were super excited. I’m hoping I can get them moved out this week, but we’ll see what happens.
They’re 11wo.

I love d'uccles! I have a hen and a roo. One porcelain, and one millefleur.

The one bantam Cochin egg hatched tonight and she’s soo pretty 😍 Also thought I’d share pics of Miyuki discovering the baby chicks and then sleeping all cute 😍🥰
