What did you do with your flock today?

Sounds gorgeous ♡ you have a few of my future fantasy flock team. The BSG & CM. ♡

I have an 4+yo Ameraucana who would not jump off the roost this morning. After a few months of a heavy lay (unusual for a 4 yo mediocre layer) she stopped pretty suddenly last month. 2 weeks ago I found a soft shelled egg that I suspected was hers and 2 days later she set herself apart from the flock.View attachment 3177176
I gave her calcium, warm soak, vent check and then antibiotics, then repeated a few times and she seemed back on track but I suspected ascites and this morning she is pretty full. I'll do the partial drain to keep her comfortable and give her a few more days with her pals. ☹ She will be missed.

Other than that Princess Peaches has finally gotten back to heroldself after a hard molt and a flock demotion. Good to see my funny friend again. She and Share happen to be buddies and it just solidifies further in my mind how complex and beautiful these creatures are. She asked me for m. worms this morning so I checked my bins and gave what I could. View attachment 3177180
Did not take long till I was surrounded by my lovelies.
1/2 emptied a compost tumbler yesterday and had the girls pick through it, bagged it then emptied the other half.View attachment 3177188View attachment 3177189
Rotated the second tumbler and saw dozens of sergeant fly larvae. Good. Free snacks.
Flock has been exceptional. Spider is getting his legs treated and conditioned and Peaches needs me to treat that fungus on her comb but all are well as a whole today. 🌴👈 touch wood.

Took my first load of items up Koke'e and will load my truck this eve for #2. Chickens will be load 3 or 4. Mid to end of month. Need to do some prepping on the coops etc.
I’m sorry to hear about your girl. Ascites is no fun. : (

I’m glad everyone else is doing good! Princess Peaches is beautiful, such a nice color and pattern. Eveyone looks so happy. ❤️

Big mahalos @frank d. How have you been, what's happening? And what's new?! Been waiting for you to hop back on but know you were a little busy.
Hows the flock? And the broom?

I've been letting out Beetlejuice regular with the flock. I can't say it is going one way or the other as far as better or worse. It's not bad at all as he is pretty sweet and respectful but he still sneaks in a girl or two when one wanders too far away from Spider. The girls mind more than Spider and I'm getting the feeling that this will be ok. I don't have room for 25 birds up Koke'e so I am still in a dilemma about who goes up. I'm afraid if I leave Juice here with the buffs he will get territorial when I bring Spider back. B.Juices dad fought with Spider and I had to rehome him. I don't want to set bj up to fail.
Anywho, went for a few practice rides on my motorcycle cycle. Today we went half way up to Koke'e. The ride up was great but I will admit going down the windy hill made me a bit nervous.

Temps are scorching yet so, another week or two... maybe. Loading up my truck for second load and night up probably with pup. That way we can get a good hike in b4 we come down the hill.

Oddly enough, there hasn’t been a lot going on here, bird-wise. I’ve been taking a summer ceramics class, so that’s been taking up most of my time.

It’s been getting hotter here so Beigie is having a few more sick days that normal, but she’s still going strong.
Feathers flew up to his new home in Washington about two weeks ago, and from what I heard before his new owners went out of town, he’s adjusting really well. He got his own special coop next to their main coop, so he can see everyone but there’s no issue of him getting beat up since he’s still pretty young. They’ll be gone for a month or so, so he’s going to look really different once they get back. I hope they’ll send a picture. :fl

Yesterday banded most of my pigeons so I’m one step closer to being able to take them out on supervised visits. : D

I love those babies! 😍 everything looks so green still. I’m jealous!
The bike ride sounds like fun! It’s a really nice bike, I’m glad it’s been working out.

Oh no, I have way too many hawks in my area for that. 😅
Right now the bands are a safety precaution in case one of them accidentally gets out. I’m hoping once I get more stuff for them (a harness, leash, possibly diapers) I can let them hang out on my shoulder while I do chores.
