What did you do with your flock today?

Well, kind of a rough morning for me. Got woken up by the alarm dog @12am. Had those 2 cute pooches back in our yard, one trying to get on the lanai again. 😕 Me and the cats attached ourselves to the ceiling with Elliotts first initial alarm crazy. Just kidding, they scrambled under beds as I clamored for flashlight and jacket but my goodness 😣... Took a few times to get the dogs gone and cats coaxed back out. Did not sleep well as I wanted to be on the ready.
I did have a "conversation" with the dog owner a few days ago and asked that she tie her dogs up or keep them out of my property as I have chickens and well... nuff said. They had chased a few wild pigs through that day... anywho, she... they.... I heard a baby... are squatting at a tree house left by an old property. Why-o-why she would bring her baby and why-o-why would she cop and attitude with me when she is in the triple wrong 🤷‍♀️? Possibly just a hippee adventure but she is not supposed to be there. And well, I have not called DLNR but I may today. Unsupervised dogs wandering freely makes me nervous to say the least. Afraid to leave my chooks in the run let alone unsupervised. Anywho, maybe I'll go try and have another "chat" and just keep a loaded pellet gun for when dogs come back. So much more complicated that way. 🤦‍♀️ lol.
Def not enjoying my time much yet but probably just getting used to things. Not many walk/hikes cuz dogs and plus gave myself food poisoning lol. Just trying to stay close, rehydrate and do chores... 🙏 and this too shall pass.

So there is today's fussy gripe lol.
Other than that, flock is awesome!
So sorry to hear about the dogs. I had one that killed my rabbit after jumping my fence to get to it. The neighbor ended up paying me 90 dollars for the rabbit because that was what it cost to have it neutered. I lost its mate afterwards but let it go because it wasn't worth the fight. I can call our local pound and complain about loose dogs and we can get fined up to $500.00 here if we don't comply and keep them at home. Plus if they are not licensed we are in trouble and get fined for that also. Ohio has leash laws and they seem to work pretty well. I hope you can enjoy the rest of your day and that you feel better.

Yeah, we have leash laws too and they don't like loose random dogs up here at all as years ago we were scolded when our dog was in the dirt road infront while we were in the yard. We took it serious. Puppies will wander some but unaware owners can be pretty bad.
I did make the call to dlnr as I should have days ago. Oh well😕 know it is for the best. They should not be there minimum.

You did what was best for the dogs. Some people get so upset with lose dogs that they don't use a pellet gun but something stronger. I hope that the owners take it serious so that your chooks will be safe.

I sprayed the perimeter of the yard down with water. 100 degrees today 100+ the next few days. I have a ton of shade but the ground on the perimeter wasn't being hit with the water from the sprinkler system. they needed the cooler ground in addition to what I have been doing.
Wow, I feel so bad for you. Our 90 with high humidity is bad enough but 100 which we have had before a few years back would be terrible. I am praying that you and your animals make it alright and that it cools off there soon. This has been such an unusually hot summer for so many places. Of course if we all get electric cars it will all go away, lol.

Be a good start 💡 Something is better than nothing IMO. Though electric cars can't happen for everybody. I personally hope conversion kits become the new thing. Id love to convert my old truck to electric... ♡♡♡ DH and I were watching a utube video on these EV conversions they do on old bugs etc. Just dreamy and totally improved hp.

If I can get free electric from the sun to charge a car so we don't have to ship gas here... well, I plan to do all I can to make that happen as I can. Till then it is little travel and motorcycle or scooter. We gotta be decent and do what we can ♡♡♡

@Luv Ducks I’m glad you’re here! I love hearing about other birds besides chickens! Someday I plan to have call ducks because they are tiny and adorable 🥰 They aren’t practical in my suburban neighborhood but some day when I have acreage and cows and goats, I will have all sorts of poultry!

I won’t go into the whole long story as it’s late and I should be sleeping—but Axel is showing signs of improvement and I’m very tentatively hopeful. Last week he couldn’t walk at all or move his right wing…today he actually stood up on his own for a second and walked a step and his right wing partly flapped. I have been giving him vitamin B Complex for about 1.5 weeks and it’s paying off. He also ate a bunch of scrambled quail eggs I made him today and some chick feed. Fingers crossed he’s even better tomorrow 🤞🏻**Note to self, don’t use medicated chick starter for longer than 4 weeks 😩

I enjoyed the coolest morning we’ve had in weeks this morning and took a couple pictures. Such good birdies 😍 and had to throw in a couple pics of my kids and the pets! 😍
Good job with Axel! I'll keep my fingers crossed he keeps improving :fl

I've never used medicated chick starter and would love to hear what you've learned from your recent experiences.

Your frizzle makes me think of Phyllis Diller 🤣 What a head of hair on that baby!

@TropicalBabies Too late for before pics...but I'll get some during and after! I pulled the vines this morning and tried to lift the sunken side. Instead of lifting, it shifted forward just a tad. Oops! But I'll try again with a helper tomorrow. If I can lift that side, I can put brick under it with spaces to let water drain. I still want the water done there so it waters the tree and vines...but I think I'll add some kind of platform with drainage there inside the run. And slant it so the water drains where I want. Didn't quite know what I was starting! Thought it'd be a quick simple thing to move the ducks there...it wasn't til I looked at that front panel and thought about how to drain their 80 gal bucket that I paused. Of course, by then I'd already pulled out all the chicken roosts and shelter. Still...I'll make it work... 😂

Hope that works out ok with the loose dogs and with the woman and child. That whole situation sounds bad all around. We have 7 dogs here... I love dogs...but I have no love for loose dogs. I don't think I've ever met a well mannered chronically loose dog.

I had put a small area to integrate chicks in, but I needed more room due to 6/1 surprise box (27 chicks remain, lost 2 cross beaks). 1st pic is the old one, 2nd is the expanded area.
