What did you do with your flock today?

Well since I lost baby #18 to pasty butt, I am on the search for a baby chick to be friends with baby #13 so she's not lonely! I messaged a lady that posted pics of 5 day old mille fluer bantam cochins...I just realllllllly didn't want another straight run chick. :( I was okay with one of my show quality d'Anvers being a boy, but a random chick...not so much! Especially since Ariana Sushi is all the sudden looking very boyish and is ALSO a bantam cochin. UGH. Anywho...at least they would be a fun color you don't see often!
Mille fluer is an eye candy color for sure❤️
Yeah, the guy who fixed it a few years ago basicly said it was fixed for awhile. It is a shame cuz I do like the fridge.
Costco has some rockin' countertop ice makers. Or we could just buy a bag of ice every so often... but so far we just toss our water canteens in the fridge and all is good. Turning off our ice maker turned off our water dispenser... I turned it back on and walked away. We are just used to no ice... till next fridge i guess.
I hate ice makers...they feel more pain then pleasure. I just use ice cube trays and disconnected and capped the hose for ice maker.
Well, here in the land of no ice and too many chickens (crap, I said it out loud again!) We are rolling in eggs and slightly cooler temperatures. Nice.
Basic scrape, water and rake chores planned today.
I did have a young pullet looking a little down and squinting the other day. When doing her check I noticed she had 1 sticktight flea. 🤔 so... they are back. Gave her a look over and spray with some eye drops and all was well in a day. Yesterday I noticed one of my little littles a bit further behind than the others. I dosed her with corid but then noticed about 7 sticktight fleas on her! Ugh! So Vaseline and spray her too and she is out running around perfect today. I am amazed at how nasty these sticktight fleas are. They really seem to get my birds sick. Don't like them at all :mad::mad::mad:
I've never heard of those either! Hawaii even has exotic bugs...wish you didn't have to deal with them
Forgive my ❓, but what breed is an OD?

X2. I forgot
OD's are Olandsk Dwarfs. They're a landrace so no standards...but in the US they're all mottled little birds. They're just fun fluff ❤️

15 wks. old. Our dad is a Sapphire Gem. Who is my mom? Possible moms breeds are: Sapphire Gem, golden comet, ISA Brown, Black sex link, Welsummer, Cream Legbar x BCMaran. Earl, #1 & 3, is sporting cream colored hackles, brown spots in wings. Which of the mom's breeds has a recessive white feather gene? Will Pikake, #4, lay white eggs? Onyx, #5 pic, is definitely CL x BCM. She has hair like her broody mom Xena. #2( RIP). What do you all think? I was trying to look up breed heritage. Another cockerel (no pic) looks like a darker barred rock, so definitely SG mom.

Woke up today to the first winter wonderland. I shoveled some places out for the chickens so they didn’t have to walk in the snow, but none of them are interested in come out. They also decided it would be a great idea to bust open an egg. They didn’t eat it but I’m normally really good at getting the eggs. This one though was later before their normal times so I wasn’t expecting them to lay. The ducks came out and stood around out of their pond before going in but sure enough they did. I will have to post a picture of the chickens when they decide to get out.

Well I am at least 5 hours or so from the southern Illinois border. That is a guess. It is about 3.5 hours to St. Louis MO. It’s actually not too cold (standing outside) right now. No wind, just light snow fall. But we did apparently start with rain but it quickly turned to snow. I clearly wasn’t ready for snow….

Welp, the waterer was frozen solid this morning for the first time so I plugged it in to thaw. Today I will finally wrap the coop and tend to any other preps for the new england winter! I think the only really good part about freezing temps and chickens is that all the potential harmful bugs die! I think? Lol. Do mites survive winters?

All 400+ hog rings are installed, holding the 150' fencing seam together. Yay! Just one more gate for DH to make and this latest change will be done. What's your next coop change in configuration? Never ending, 😂. Maybe we'll get the garlic planted today. Gets dark before 5. At least it's sunny and dry, mid 40's to 50 highs this week. Christmas is in 40 days!
