What did you do with your flock today?

I strangely said yes to chick sitting 12 big chicks for 2 weeks. Absolutely madness on my part 🤦‍♀️ but it is for a super good reason. So cleaned out the 2 roo coops, spread fresh mulch etc. All good, cute gang.
Had to do some shuffling with my peeps. Have 3 boys in the main coop now 😂 Moved some old biddies back into the main coop.... just think, only 2 more weeks of doing the chicken shuffle every night 🤣🤣🤣

Got 30 bags finished and dropped in Lihue town. Feels great to get that off of my plate. Gotta start back up but not with that kind of pressure.
I am going to treat myself and chooks to some fresh mulch in the run this week! Gotta go load it up but heck, finding the time was the hard part.

I don't even have my Christmas pillows out. Some years, this year it was not important. Maybe next year right?

Sorry about the rodents and the cold weather folks. I hope all fares well... except for the 🐀🐁🐁🐀🐀🐀
I really don't know how you find the time! 30 bags, 12 chicks, new mulch and Christmas? Wow! :bow

Oh I’m sorry but I’m so glad I’m not the only one! I honestly didn’t even want to put up a tree or do Xmas . I know I’m a horrible mom. I just have lacked so much motivation! I just feel like I’m on auto pilot right now. Moving but not sure how. I normally have already done cookies and candies and presents are normally ready to go, except the ones from Santa. But no, not this year. Mother of the year award right here 😂. But the kids have a tree and presents starting to go under. HOWEVER I can’t for the life of me find the tote that has our Xmas star and stockings in it. 🤦‍♀️.We started moving stuff in the house last year right after Christmas, so it is probably hidden deep in the depths of “haha, good luck finding me” nowhere to be found. I have a backup plan that I’m going to do tomorrow. I think it will be fun for the kids, just hope my mom has them in her store this year. 🤞
My decorations aren't even out of storage yet! I'm hoping we will get round to it on Saturday. I'm at work until 2pm Tuesday (not that I'm counting down or anything 🤣) then I have 3 clear days where I hope to get all the baking, present wrapping and everything else done. Come Christmas Day and I'll probably just want to sleep.

Chickens have no taste receptors for capsicum ( the 'heat agent in chillies etc) so it really doesn't bother them. I'm adding a few red chilli flakes to their breakfast while it's so cold out - it's supposed to help boost their circulation.

😄 I don't have kids, don't have a 9-5, have a small home, have an awesome dh and our weather is almost always the same.
I'm always pleasantly behind 😁 though my little house is a mess right now -looks like a bachelor pad 🤦‍♀️- and I don't have a single Xmas decoration up beside the house lights dh put up 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'll get to the scrubbing of the house after mulch.

My heart goes out to parents and cold weather dwellers ♡

May add some to help with that then with these super low temps we are supposed to be getting.

For more ideas, go here. Oddly satisfying to see them die. https://mousetrapmonday.com/category/mousetrap/
O my gosh I enjoyed that! I refuse to show my kids the "pest to pet" trap though 🤣 Think I'm going to build a homemade bucket trap. I bought a cheaper version of the Rhine bucket before and it was impossible to assemble...but $20 for a plastic lid just makes me grumpy ☹️. I'd pay that price or more if they made them out of metal or something stronger that's not destroyed by heat and cold.

And canvases of C&B were delivered. Great and easy gift idea 💡View attachment 3350113
Very zen! Your canvases came out beautiful 😍
Im gonna try REALLY hard to catch up on all this…just so much going on so please forgive me. We are getting snow tonight on top of it all. We decided not to get the pregnant goat. We found their particular ad and they have 3 different types of goats, basically all are pregnant and in the ad said they were due in January/ February. Which he told us in text that the one we were looking at was only 3-4 weeks pregnant. Which would put her at the end of March, beginning of April. And I could do that but not knowing for sure, as he seemed like he didn’t know much talking on the phone with him, I couldn’t risk it. Taking in a pregnant goat and her have babies in the middle of winter and I not know could be terrible. I don’t one loosing ears, hoofs, or tail or anything because I didn’t know. Knowing a better time frame I could easily just keep an eye out. So, we just let the guy know that we didn’t feel comfortable taking a goat that was pregnant and due in winter for our first pregnancy with a goat. We would rather her go to someone who has better knowledge with it. No one we have spoken to either has given the CD-T vaccine which I am also blown away with. But we found another little girl. Who is younger and isn’t pregnant. We get her Christmas Eve!
Sounds like a smart choice on the goats ❤️ I order my vaccines through a place called Jeffers. I used to buy a lot of goat stuff through an outfit called Hoeggers too.
Is that due to worries about antibiotic resistance in the human population? I know that's why they're not available to buy here. I get the reasoning behind it, it's sound, but in this country vet care for chickens and other fowl is very poor. More often than not, I have to tell the vet what I think is wrong and get them to confirm or disprove my 'diagnosis' with tests. I also usually have to tell them what treatment I need for them too. It's very frustrating. Luckily, I have an excellent vet who does listen to me and wants to learn about chickens. She's brilliant and I hate having to see anyone else.

Tetramycin is a great broad spectrum antibiotic. It's great you're able to get it legally again!
Ya. I agree with the logic. But it's like grass here. There's talk of banning lawn grass to reduce water use. The only problem is the ban would be on home owners...who almost never grow grass. The grass you find here is at churches, hospitals, casinos, parks, etc. Livestock antibiotic use is the same. Hopefully it's just a place to start though right. 🤞
And for now, us little guys can still get what we need, it just cost a crap load more unless you have a nice livestock vet to hook you up.

Had a sneezer yesterday so isolated him with a view of the flock and added vitamins. Tonight I have 2 more... so isolated them & started them on vitamins and then dosed all w/tylan. Think I am going to add vitamins and dose the flock if anyone else looks suspect. Not liking this at all.
I hope it is just some sniffles. Mine sneeze every once in a while and then I don’t hear it again for some time. Crossing my fingers for your little ones that they are ok!!

Well, it is war, yes war with a mouse. I’m about sick of his games. I went and bought sticky traps. I tried baiting the snap traps with caramel and even chocolate. I hate using sticky traps but this one can’t stay in my house. Just can’t. So I cut one side off of the trap so it is flushed with the wall. He has been running on my backsplash. And then I put one on the side of the stove. He has been coming up from behind it. I think somewhere we didn’t seal something as good as we thought when we put the gas lines through the floor. Anyway, normally he climbs up my power cord and then right onto the backsplash. Well today the little smarty pants diverted it, I watched him do it. So I put another on top of the power cord. SOMEHOW he diverts all 3! I put one by my sink as he must be getting water from there. And I seen him leave the sink, run up to the sticky trap, stops and finds another way around! 🤬 So I cut another trap side and put it next to the other. Next step is getting the long snake rat ones. I have no idea what else to do. And I can’t use the poisons with all the animals we have around here. I’m at a complete loss. I asked my mom too and she had no idea what else to do. Ugh! Any suggestions and I will take it.
