What did you do with your flock today?

Thank you! I really appreciate any help I can get. I will try the aspirin. How do you give it to them? I don’t know off the top of my head what he would eat to eat all of it at once. He is eating fantastic and drinking great but he is eating little by little. He is standing on it more and isn’t limping like he was. Really, and honestly, he is walking on it almost like normal. I don’t plan on messing with the blisters, but I am ready for when they do pop….antibiotic ointment. I bought a lot of it so I didn’t run into this again. It blows my mind too how his feet is the only one with this. None of the girls have this going on.
It varies. Peggy would just eat aspirin (or any tablets) out of my hand but she was a chicken dustbin 🤣 . I used to give Maud her dose sandwiched between two tiny bits of soft tortilla. I guess it just depends on what each bird's favourite treat is. I've given them pressed into grapes, hidden in a bit of scrambled egg - anything i can think of to ensure it goes down. If you use a dispersable aspirin you could try soaking a bread cube in the liquid if you think he might eat that?
Great news he's limping a lot less and that he's eating and drinking well!
Is your antibiotic cream water-based or paraffin/oil based? I'm asking because when the blisters pop and start to turn black, paraffin or oil based creams will prevent the frostbite drying out - which is the last thing you want to happen. If it isn't water-based, stop using it straight away if the area goes black but you can keep using it until it does.
You can keep using it throughout if it is water-based, as it will evaporate but only use a very small amount.

So you can put it in the run and apparently there is a lot of vitamin c in the tree. But then there is the factor of sap… but no other harm
Gladys is an absolute bugger for eating pine needles. One year, she snuck into the house and sat in the Christmas tree for at least 3 hours before we spotted her 🤣 and that was only because she decided she'd had her fill of needles and created enough bald spots for the time being! She ate a whole juniper bush and several heathers. I've even seen her tuck into holly - which is supposed to be toxic!

I will have to look. I’m not 100% sure. Thank you though for that advice! I might try putting it into scrambled eggs. I at least know he will eat most of that if not all of it!

Oh that is too funny!!

Wow! That's a fascinating article. I love the bluish white waxy coated one. We only have a couple of native ones locally and they're basically black or brown. I do see a lot of interesting beetles on our allotment though, including the very pretty but damaging rosemary beetles. Fortunately, they're a big favourite of the chickens 🤣
Gotta luv chickens! ❤️
I cut the branches off mine as close as possible to the trunks, give them a week or two to dry off and then use them as perches in the run.
We do a fake tree, but the one year my oldest was driving behind a truck moving dead Xmas trees and one flew off and punched through her radiator. She brought it home after they got it pulled out and made the most delightful smelling wood chips out of it. Wish hubby was willing to do real trees. Bet they make wonderful perches.

Checked my found mealies for pupas again, refreshed their food and potatoes. Still no pupas and they're huge. Don't think this is the same variety as the store bought kind, though definitely in the same bug family. Curious to see what the beetles look like when I finally get some, and curious if they'll be a good variety to raise.View attachment 3360674
I found this fun article on different types of mealworm (darkling) beetles found in AZ. I've seen a few different types of these around our house, but mostly a big black type that does head stands when scared. Would be really cool if it's the one of the colorful beetles though 😃. I especially like the blue one! My chickens would probably prefer the head stand guys just because they're big beetles that they love to eat. 😂

What an terrific selection of darkling beetles you folks have. I'm rather excited as to what type of darkling you have too. They look delicious whatever kind they are.

I have 2 cute little pullets snooping around the nest boxes and being busted in the run alone.

excited to see what color this little EE pullet will lay. Probably light brown but I can dream of blue or green.

Yesterday I delivered eggs to Kalaheo on my motorcycle Boo. The delivery fee I was given, 4 avocados and 2 mangosteen 😋.
I'm having a simple rack made for the back of Boo so I can mount a basket or crate to do egg deliveries. That with homemade recycled bags... feeling pretty happy about my egg selling scene and carbon footprint.
