Well...except for pleasure, they really are pretty worthless...but shhh...don't tell my hubby that! No, not that at all! There is a crowd of people here that love their birds forsure and Yokos would def be a crowd pleaser with bragging rights.
They are a beautiful and luxurious bird for sure. We are a simple people here and don't have many breeds that the mainland has. We don't have the space of the mainland either. The imports are focused on game or standard hatchery egg layers. To see a yoko would be like seeing an elephant walk down the street lol

I'm very curious about Hawaii's rules on buying chickens. I've heard their strict but don't know much about them. Can you buy chicks or eggs from off the island or are you restricted to what the local hatcheries offer?
Yep...I'm guilty of that tooI'm sure it will come to you ♡ probably the minute you talk yourself out of it lol. That's is how I roll. I tell myself not hatching till xxx and then I turn around and fill the baterI jedi mind trick myself somehow
What ever and when ever you choose I will be excited to follow.
I love your new and old varieties.

O poor baby. I'm so glad you caught it fast and sounds like your taking great care of him.I have a lot of catching up to do…. I hope everyone is doing well. I still have my rooster inside and he is still favoring the one foot. I can see more damage but there is still what looks like so far, a lot of healthy leg still. I took him out yesterday to mingle with the girls. A couple of them challenged him but I’m pretty sure he worked himself back into the rankings, though I’m sure it isn’t over yet either. I just think being with them and getting so fresh air and sunshine is good for him. I kept him out until I noticed him not even using it and just wanting to lay down somewhere. I knew he was on edge and wasn’t going to just be able to do that. But we are back out here today for a little. No one has really challenged him so I may leave him out here for a little and just check on him. I’m more worried about his foot and what I should do. The swelling is going down but I see more and more black. I took these pictures last night, I used a flash so maybe they could be seen better. I believe he may end up with a lost toe though, but so far only looks like maybe one.

Love your homemade traps and looking forward to seeing how they work. Less flies is always a positive. As theturns and the flies buzz around here. Where I am at with my cheapo catchers. First one that I drilled pukas in the sides is getting some attention. It does take a few days for the mix to ferment and become irresistible. House flies are making their way in and possibly out. In the time I watched I did not see any flies come out but did see them go in.View attachment 3371207
The bigger fly (blowfly?) Was too big to make it in. Checking the older and factory traps, they were catching plenty big fat blowflies.View attachment 3371209
Modified my cheapo traps. Cut a V in all 4 sides. This may encourage them to go in and not out. Also made 1 mix and split between 2 traps as the cheapo traps are smaller. Now I wait to see how these do. View attachment 3371215second one I made the V's higher.View attachment 3371216I am almost tempted to buy 2 more of these factory traps but they went up to $10 each on Amazon. Think I bought my origionals for $5 @ HD w/ 1 bait. Obviously I was the one who got baited lol.
So. To be continued...![]()
