What did you do with your flock today?

Such a beautiful boy 🤩
Today I say a young man walking down the road with a roo in his arms and at first glance it looked like a Yoko with its long white tail but I don't think anyone here would have been able to get- or cared to get their hands on a Yoko. I also think I would have heard about it. Was a nice thought though.
Sounds like a beautiful roo he had❤️. Ya, yokos aren't good for much but looking at. Their eggs are about the same size as my banties. My banties can almost walk under them without ducking though 😂. Lightweight birds but tall. These are yoko and dwarf eggs in the incubator...can't tell which are yoko by size.
But they're a sight to see when they start leaping around in play...and they do like to play ❤️ When I let the other chickens out they run out and start pecking around. When the yokos come out, they explode out with high leaps and halfway flight that's just a sight to see...and they keep that up periodically through out the day.

Glad you found a source for irrigation tape!

Ordered some more orthodontist bands to mark chicks as they're hatched for breeding the lavenders. Still not sure I really want to, yet I also really want to. I keep looking at those little birds and thinking...if only they had spots and more lavender...🤣 But I also feel I'm not knowledgeable enough to be a good project breeder. :idunno Old English are like yokos in that they've been bred for looks for so long that I think they're already not as healthy as breeds bred for production. My yokos feel like they're getting healthier though... not prettier, but more vigorous.

Not sure if I'm trying to talk myself into or out of breeding the Old English 🤣

No, not that at all! There is a crowd of people here that love their birds forsure and Yokos would def be a crowd pleaser with bragging rights.
They are a beautiful and luxurious bird for sure. We are a simple people here and don't have many breeds that the mainland has. We don't have the space of the mainland either. The imports are focused on game or standard hatchery egg layers. To see a yoko would be like seeing an elephant walk down the street lol

Same here! This time I buried the batons under stuff in the garage so it would be more difficult to get em out! I MUST wait til March to hatch any!!! It is so fun and addictive!
I'm finding the adult ones problems are so much more complicated than the chicks...not to mention chick are so dadgum precious...how can ya resist!
@ChicksnMore I'm excited to see what direction you go in.since I have porcelain and lavender and wanna experiment along those same lines!

I have a lot of catching up to do…. I hope everyone is doing well. I still have my rooster inside and he is still favoring the one foot. I can see more damage but there is still what looks like so far, a lot of healthy leg still. I took him out yesterday to mingle with the girls. A couple of them challenged him but I’m pretty sure he worked himself back into the rankings, though I’m sure it isn’t over yet either. I just think being with them and getting so fresh air and sunshine is good for him. I kept him out until I noticed him not even using it and just wanting to lay down somewhere. I knew he was on edge and wasn’t going to just be able to do that. But we are back out here today for a little. No one has really challenged him so I may leave him out here for a little and just check on him. I’m more worried about his foot and what I should do. The swelling is going down but I see more and more black. I took these pictures last night, I used a flash so maybe they could be seen better. I believe he may end up with a lost toe though, but so far only looks like maybe one.

As the 🌎 turns and the flies buzz around here. Where I am at with my cheapo catchers. First one that I drilled pukas in the sides is getting some attention. It does take a few days for the mix to ferment and become irresistible. House flies are making their way in and possibly out. In the time I watched I did not see any flies come out but did see them go in.

The bigger fly (blowfly?) Was too big to make it in. Checking the older and factory traps, they were catching plenty big fat blowflies.

Modified my cheapo traps. Cut a V in all 4 sides. This may encourage them to go in and not out. Also made 1 mix and split between 2 traps as the cheapo traps are smaller. Now I wait to see how these do.

second one I made the V's higher.

I am almost tempted to buy 2 more of these factory traps but they went up to $10 each on Amazon. Think I bought my origionals for $5 @ HD w/ 1 bait. Obviously I was the one who got baited lol.
So. To be continued... 🪰🪰🪰🪰

@FBMcrazy8 I'm so sorry your boys still not doing so good. That article on BYC about frostbite went on for months I believe. It is just a miracle u checked and started treating him asap!!! I sure pray he improves and doesn't lose any toes!

@TropicalBabies it's a shame a store realizes what they got so then they bump up the prices! That happened to me on Amazon with my incubators! Very frustrating...of course I should have had more sense than to keep incubating but that's another topic lol!

Hey guys, today I found out Molly has a pretty nasty ear infection. I’ve been using hydrogen peroxide and qtips to clean it out, but is there anything else I should be doing? Packing it with neosporin or something similar after it’s all cleared out, starting her on Baytril, etc.?

It’s probably not the reason she’s swollen, but it would be amazing if she gets better after I get a handle on the infection. 🤞
