What did you do with your flock today?

@kurby22 I checked the npip resources and found something that might be helpful. Here in AZ the poultry owners do all the testing them selves right at home and report the results. We only test for salmonella so you can actually have an mg+ flock and stay npip certified.

At any rate, the site that sells us the tests does actually sell a mycoplasma test. I'm out of time right now so I'll have to finish checking price and test accuracy later but thought I'd share. It might be a cheaper way to test.

I'm stuck at home recovering from surgery.

I went out to sunbathe a bit. I sat in a chair I have in the backyard and just stayed there with my eyes closed. I was in so much pain I couldn't help sighing or whining a bit.

Then I felt the sound of some wings flapping. My favorite hen, Bianca, had jumped to the armrest of the chair. She immediately started pecking my arm and staring at me insistently. It was probably her way of saying "hey, are you okay?".

It's funny because Bianca is chronically ill so I've always taken care of her, and at that time, I felt like it was the other way around.

Then, I looked down and all the other chickens were there too, surrounding me, staring at me.

Either they were waiting for me to die so that they could finally eat me (LOL), or they knew that something was wrong and they got close to check on me.

In any case, it's probably the best thing I've done with my flock so far: therapy.

How wonderful! Chickens can be very empathetic, I've found. They will help you heal, definitely.
You could, of course, be right that they're waiting to eat you. I chopped the end of my pinkie off with garden shears a couple of years ago. Peggy ate it before it hit the ground!
Hope you have a swift recovery and all goes well with it 🤞

What a smart and lucky pigeon finding you! It seems that birds in need just find you! Perhaps you have a sign only they can see that says "stop here if you are a bird in need!". I believe my Mom's house and our family have one of those signs for cats! We have taken in so many cats that need homes over the years and they all seem to just find us! My sister was on a trail ride through the desert one day when we were in high school and found abandoned kittens, more than one injured or sick kitten has found our yard, and one of our favorite boys was covered in oil hiding under a car next to ours in a grocery store in the snow when he was a kitten. It feels good helping these creatures in need and doing what is best for them. Chickens are so smart! He should get some extra treats for helping out! ❤️
That's amazing! We've had similar stories with two of our cats. One, Mo, was actually brought to me by a cat I knew that lived in the same village. He was in a bad way, he weighed less than 2lb and somebody had tried to garrotte him with wire. The other was my first cat and just found me one day in the middle of a field!

Babies looking much better this morning. The cheesy eyes going to take a while but her energies up enough to jump onto the roosting bar and her other eye looks normal now. I gave her a heat lamp placed high so that it only increased the ground temp about 10°...she's well enough that she decided to jump up to get directly under the lamp...lol. Crop still feels pretty empty, but she's drinking water again.
Whatever this turns out to be, at least it heals fast with meds.
So glad to hear that she's doing so much better :hugs

What kind of surgery? Glad you are into the solution ♡ and wishing you a speedy recovery 🤞🙏 and lots of good therapeutic company 😳🐔

@kurby22 @Shetland lover made my heart break with their kitty find stories. So tragic- who would leave kittens in the desert or tie them with wire?! (Well, an evil coward would... 🤬🤬)

My makapo (blind) Mochi San keeps me company while I sew now and stays my constant reminder to keep at it. What I would do to help save just 1 ♡♡♡. Speaking of Mochi, yestermorn he scaled a post and then the shade cloth and made it ontop of the chicken run. Great, but he can't get down ♡ and then last eve he climbs the thin avocado branches and enjoyed a moment ontop of the arbor. I think he does these things so I have to get him down. He is so proud of his accomplishments as he let's me know the whole time with his meows. So much to love 💕

We have Kona's and it is raining HEAVY now. The thick sultry kind with the surf rumbling, cracking and relentlessly pounding in the background. I can feel and smell the salt mingling with my tended earth. The Eddie Aikau is on tomorrow!!! So I'm sure this is just announcing the arrival of this big swell. Most exciting!!
I was going to take a ride up Koke'e on Boo but don't think it will clear so will buckle down and combat sew some more bags as the Waimea Plantation Days Celebration is in another week and I need to fill 2 more stands.
The view from up higher of the surf wrapping around the curves of the island will be awesome if the skies clear.

The 2 little-littles with poxs are doing well, breezing through it so far 🤞🙏.

13 eggs yesterday, very cool number. Had 12 yesterday with neither blue layers, basicly averaging a cool dozen a day now. A little up after the slow from the last storm. Though, slow eggs sales for me right now lol. I hear they are $10 a dozen at the regular store but my $5 per dozen for happy freeranging babies sales are slow lol. Maybe I should raise my prices so people will buy. Just kidding. 😂🤣😂 I have neighbors after family. Rather give away then be an un-neighborly price gouger.

Picked up more empty feed bags. I have a major stash going that I need to prep and organize. Hope I find some new styles to get excited about!

Don't judge me lol.
