What did you do with your flock today?

I'm not sure bout a connection...I guess it would make sense in case I needed more room for flock as a whole! N making the cut now would be much easier than after addition is built.

LUV the green!!!
I miss green sooooo badly!

Oh the roofing...since I haven't got much idea of what I'm doing lol...I was just gonna slide the new roof under the edge of existing roof on the lower portion.
Here's a quick video I took...I think I should utilize the height on the opposite side of the main coop so that they have the run space underneath the cool. Cause on the other side it would be pushing to have even a foot of height under the addition.
What a lovely coop, and looks like a great place to put your lean to, have extra height, and save on building supplies. God loves to give good ideas!

Yesterday, got 15 eggs over 2 days, 7 before that, so averages are on the rise. Treadle feeders training is going good, they don't jump now when the door makes a noise when they step on or off the platform. Almost to rat starvation mode! The moles have moved from the backyard to my front flower beds, and under the neighbor's fruit trees. I have to move the mole trap again, on the next dry day. Tried something different. Took all the used cat litter and poo, and stuffed it down all the rat tunnels...and the next batch will go into the mole tunnels. Seems strange that the moles moved away after I put the trap in the ground.
Been prepping and cooking since this morning. Samples were eaten, and we'll feast tomorrow.

I looked at the treadle feeders thinking it might help me with the mice. Didn't find a bantam version though so probably no good for my little birds. They look like good feeders though.

Yum on your New Years feast!

I've named the little chick Snug. It likes to snuggle already...think because I keep picking it up to check it's baby feathers coming in to see if they look like I expected...lol. Given up on keeping some distance and just cuddling it off and on now. So far it's baby feathers are black and white...not a bright white...more of a tinted creamy white though. Really really sweet baby. 🥰View attachment 3382471View attachment 3382472
Super cute baby! Love the black edging to the wing feathers.

Spider is imprinting with feral chicks lol. Not sure why he is taking such an interest in this gal and her brood.

She is a regular here but brought her new brood a few days ago.

She had about 16+ when I first spotted her bringing her brood to dig bugs at one of the compost. Now she is down to about 9 2 days later. So camouflaged 😂

So far i have harvested 4 eggs from my flock. It had been one every other day. Until yesterday when i unexpectedly got one. I went out into the coop and finished installing a couple of cozy coop heaters. I had installed them but needed and extension cord. I got that and hung it up and ran it to my other extension cord that runs my metal warmer for my waterer. We are due for some -20F next week and i want to be ready for it. My flock (well at least 1) is just starting to lay and i really don't want this cold weather but we have had a crazy nice Jan so far.

Maybe Spider was enchanted by 16 babies! He might have taken one look and said, Wow! What a woman! 😂

So far about the lowest it has gotten this winter is -13°F with windchills about -35°F which while bad isn't even close to any record around here. Frankly this January is shaping up to be one of the warmest in recent memory.
