What did you do with your flock today?

So far about the lowest it has gotten this winter is -13°F with windchills about -35°F which while bad isn't even close to any record around here. Frankly this January is shaping up to be one of the warmest in recent memory.
That's amazing...you must be well versed in how to deal with the cold then. Where I am we rarely drop into the +20°F. Glad you're getting to enjoy things a tad warmer then usual!

I looked at the treadle feeders thinking it might help me with the mice. Didn't find a bantam version though so probably no good for my little birds. They look like good feeders though.

Yum on your New Years feast!
Wish there were a smaller version for you. Are bantams heavier than a mouse/rat? If so, you could put a counter weight on the platform to make up for what they are not. 1.8 # is what it takes to open the lid.

Spider is imprinting with feral chicks lol. Not sure why he is taking such an interest in this gal and her brood.View attachment 3382795
She is a regular here but brought her new brood a few days ago.View attachment 3382805View attachment 3382806
She had about 16+ when I first spotted her bringing her brood to dig bugs at one of the compost. Now she is down to about 9 2 days later. So camouflaged 😂
I cannot even see them! Always better in person. Spider is a charmer, isn't he? And she must like him, or she wouldn't be there. 16 is quite a large brood!

Dinner is done, and eaten. So glad everyone enjoyed it. DH was telling our friend that I've been a few days getting this ready. This afternoon, it was another dry one, so filled the feeders, and took the last screw out. It closes now, so shouldn't be feeding any more 4 legged critters. The first girls to figure the feeder out was the 2 Brahmas. The rats had dug some new holes last night, avoiding the cat litter filled ones. Yay! They are also tunneling under the feeders. The mole has moved to the flower beds at the front, so I moved the trap. Again. Another 15 eggs from 2 days. Cock E continues to be "cheeky" as @Shetland lover put it. He's been a little sly bugger, luring the girls with his treat call, and then jumping them while they try to eat. He doesn't quite have the knack of mating yet, and seems like he has trouble getting balanced properly to do the deed.
New project this week is putting up the 3 security cameras, figuring out just where to mount them.
@tropical Babies, do you have a link to the tutorial on the bags you make?

My babies open up the grandpa's treadle feeders at 2-3 months old. May take 2 chicks to counter the weight at first but then they go solo no problem. Chickens are smart ♡ I bet it would work for bantams.

I Googled and watched a YouTube of an Australian gal a make a bag. I mean, it is a good starter or to get your feet wet or feel of the process. Then I was super lucky enough to have a gal mentor me if you will. I bought a few bags from her and tuned up what I was doing. Way better than the basics.
PM me your address and I'll send you a bag. After watching the youtube the light will go on 💡 and you will be on your way. OR we can PM and I'll walk you through as best I can. ♡

I'll have to try it. Think my smallest adults are the spangled oegb's... they're supposed to average 22 oz for the girls but my spangles are probably closer a pound. They're all hatchery stock and came teeeeny.
Counter weight...I like it.

I'm such a bum. I sewed a few bags for my DSD on Oahu as DH is headed over for his mom's 95th! And watched A LOT of the Eddie
