What did you do with your flock today?

You guys Nohope doesn’t have MG, Mareks or Reticuloendotheliosis. I wish I had also done ALV too! 🥺 I might do one more and test for that. After that I’m out of ideas on lymphoproliferative viruses! Any ideas other than ALV @Shetland lover ?? 🥺 I’m back to a potential toxin now if it’s not AVL aren’t I?

I know this misery and I am so sorry you have to deal with it :( Have you gotten the lab results back? I would wait and test again--I always take care of my show birds before moving to the general population to limit exposure as much as possible....but you know, I bring in a lot of birds from different places after shows and none of them in those pens have shown any signs of the MG or other stuff going on in my flocks! I'm so sorry you have to go through this trauma too...it's the worst. :(

I may have missed a post or forgotten...did you confirm they have mycoplasma? Or is it something else?
How did you give about testing them for it?
I did get results and it is. They're all healthy right now and no other birds have shown any illness so far. I'm worried they'll become easy targets for every germ out there or that the myco itself gets more virulent over time. From @kurby22 experience it sounds like something like that happens.

I decided to keep the yokos and vaccinate but I'm still trying to find a time when I can do everyone's birds fast enough. And time means I'm second guessing and questioning if it's the right choice.

If I could find someone willing to take them that'd be wonderful. I also keep thinking it's a crime to make it so my dwarfs can't be bred or shared. It I keep the yokos and they have a good life then it can be worth it. If I keep the yokos and they have bouts of suffering leading up to inevitable death then I think I'm making the wrong choice.

There's a good chance that my other birds are still disease free. If I didn't have the yokos here, I could wait a bit, then test my other birds to see. If I understand correctly, once vaccinations are done all the birds will test positive so I really need to decide before I vaccinate. Either close all my flocks, vaccinate to keep them as healthy as possible, then let them die out... or lose the yokos, wait and test to see if the rest are still free from it, then maybe vaccinate as a preventative.

I hate the thought of letting my dwarfs die out. I hate the thought of my yokos getting sicker and sicker. None of my bird buddies want the yokos now...not even the lady who gave me Manny who I suspect it might have started from. Shes had no illness so I might be wrong about Manny. House finches are everywhere here and could be the cause too.

It shouldn't be a hard decision. Just make a choice and move forward right. But dang I'm getting myself in a twist about it.

I'm so glad it's not any of those ❤️, though I'm sure it's crazy frustrating not to have a solid answer yet. But it's still progress!

Well I think it’s a testament to the vaccination that Nohope was clean for Mycoplasma. He’s been vaccinated and never been sick from MG—if that helps you any?? The only ones that get sick are the ones that never got vaccinated. Not sure if that helps you or not! But does make me feel like the cost is worth it!

@kurby22 That does help! The fact he's been vaccinated and tested negative means I can move forward with vaccinations and keep looking for someone to take my beautiful babies. If I can find someone, and if I'm lucky and my other birds are still free from it, I can test for certainty and move forward from there. I still have an order of chicks coming in April too and was debating cancelling that as well.

Good! I try to vaccinate at around 8-10 weeks but for sure before they go outside and touch soil, so if yours go out sooner you can do sooner. They recommend two shots with second being 4 weeks later but I couldn't bring myself to spend the money twice in a month on it--it's not a cheap vaccine! But I also feel even more confident that I'm doing what I can to maintain a healthy flock. Phew. What a rollercoaster of emotions....blah!

I'm just dragging today. Amazon messed up my thread order and I am down to my last waiting for them to make it right. Wind is still a bit wild and I feel like a lump. Cleaned and filled waterers this morning and refilled all food stations. Sewed a few bags, made a few calls... about it for me except for collecting 15 eggs this eve. Yippee!

We have had a few visitors this last week.

And the tree I planted ontop of Share is doing well. Other than that I feel in limbo lol. 😂 Thank goodness I don't have to contend with REAL weather lol Maybe it is because I skipped dinner last eve and don't eat b-fast... 🤔 🤷‍♀️

Shares tree looks wonderful ❤️. I'm jealous of your beautiful winter weather! Ours is pretty good, but not Hawaii level good!
We all need some limbo time...though I suspect your limbo is another person's busy 😂

Well @kurby22 I guess and think that is good news ... tuff not having answers or knowing what you are up against but im sure you must feel more hopeful.

IDK @ChicksnMore seems there are a lot of people on this sight managing MG. If it can pass with a house finch or sparrow will you be able to protect the rest of your flock? I love that @kurby had good success with the vax. It is a hard call.

My next flock is going to live in a biodome and I am going to live in it with them.
