What did you do with your flock today?

My flock decided to raid the porch that had brew grains drying on it.

After they helped themselves to the stuff, a couple decided to jump on me and use my pant's as their napkin, and processed to eat the crumbs off me.

Mine use me as a napkins too!!! Occasionally my cochins will even grab a stray hair for flossing!

Another sleepy day here so worked on my beer can chicken. Today he got his tail!View attachment 3430756View attachment 3430757View attachment 3430758Its a crazy everywhich way tail...lol. I started out trying to make neat, tidy, controlled feathers. Tried ironing the tail feathers flat so I could make each feather curl just right...then I decided that was nuts. So a wild crazy tail it is!

How in earth do you keep from cutting up yourself on all that sharp stuff?!

It certainly does work. I've sprouted it successfully . It makes the wheat content a bit healthier for them too. Here, we get wild bird seed called 'no mess' where the seeds have been cracked or milled so they don't grow all over your garden. Obviously they won't sprout. And I'd advise not trying to sprout the type with suet pellets or dried bugs in them!

I've wondered about this! Would LUV for a detailed instruction or video showing how!

That would be better...nah the ones straying from my head as the wind blows n they just pull it on out lol!

It rained all day here yesterday. Still haven't got battens up on the run so I spent most of yesterday clearing accumulated water off the tarps. This morning, there was so much rainwater from overnight, I got drenched trying to push it off from underneath - a cold shower was  not on the menu pre-coffee!
The ground is so soggy after the snow and now all this rain. I totally empathise with Kurby22. Mud is no fun!

Those eggs sound delicious - for chickens
Mine all love eggs and will gather round my feet and stare up at me 'adoringly' if they're in the kitchen when I use any.
Stan has recently discovered Greek yoghurt after turning his beak up at it for months. He goes nuts for it now. Weirdly, he isn't keen on grapes - I find this really odd as Pru is a grape monster and Ferdy loves his 'bed grapes'. It means he's missing a trick with the ladies as he won't tidbit with them.
I often wonder what other people feed their flocks. I'm probably a bad 'owner' as I feed all sorts to mine as long as I know it's not toxic. I think how I would feel if all I had to eat for the rest of my life was boring pellets. My birds seem to thrive and all look healthy. I don't have any behavioural issues like feather pecking and bullying. O.K, my birds might be crazy in other ways...

That sounds like a good owner to me! I feed the same way. I think my birds would go into a pout if I stopped feeding them every tidbit I can. Would they pout or eat my feet? When I go in with treats they always peck my fingers and toes instead.

It sounds like you can definitely feel my pain Mud, standing water everywhere, muddy chickens…so many muddy eggs. Hard to have nice eggs when they lay them in the run instead of their nest boxes!

It sounds like your babies are properly pampered! I do find it funny that chickens seem to have food preferences! I have several chickens that turn their nose up at bananas, blueberries, chard, and yogurt! While the rest devour any and all treats I tend to think like you, that chicken food while essential seems boring!! So I like to give them different things now and then! Every two weeks or so they get organic greens from a local farm—I buy whatever is under $2 and mix it. Usually it’s chard and rainbow chard, collard greens, kale, and spinach. I chop it all up, mix in my liquid omegas, add whatever salad greens or cabbage slaw the neighbors gave us, and then toss in any fruits starting to look overly soft but not bad—mainly bananas. I have not tried grapes yet…might have to try them I see it the same way—I don’t have flock issues nor feather picking…so they are probably doing alright!

I guess there's just something exhilarating about chasing a grape on the move! They love them & it's very entertaining for me.

This is my favorite thing to watch!! I will have to get some!
