What did you do with your flock today?

So, I have a question ya all….I was looking for any pips and none. But I noticed this line and of course freaking out. I did a quick candle and seen that some of the air sac had yellow liquid in it (obviously would have to be yolk…right) baby is still moving but I’m worried that it is gonna be a goner. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

How gorgeous! She's a similar colour to Clara who is a blue mottled too. Their plumage changes with every moult and they get more heavily mottled as they age. You can see the difference in her here. The third photo was taken at just 26 weeks, the second photo a couple of weeks ago at 2.5 years old. It's an even more pronounced in Pru's case (first and third photo) View attachment 3432273View attachment 3432269

Your birds are so beautiful 😍
Well spring means Roosters want to jump the hens more & time for me to check who grew some pointy spurs & do something about it. I have 11 roosters & I see that their rate of spur growth is not all the same. I have a large Buff Orpington that grew back some surprisingly large spurs as compared to the other Roos. Anyway, I noticed some of his hens were looking a bit bareback so I checked each one over carefully. They can often hide serious injury behind their wings. So unfortunately, that's what I found, one sweet hen with 1 bad spur injury. I brought her in, soaked her in warm water bath, washed her gently & tended to her wound, dried her with the hair dryer while sitting on a cushy towel on my lap (they love that), then set her up temporarily in the extra bathroom that has a tub. So far so good. She is a wonderful patient. ❤️

Wow that looks painful. Do you know how to treat it? I'm wondering if butterfly tape might help pull the edges together for a better/faster heal. She looks like a good patient.

I've never seen yolk in the air sac so I'm not sure what to think here. If the babies still alive though there's a good chance for it still. 🤞

It is still moving. I’m wondering though if it did try piping on the wrong end? 🤷‍♀️ There is clearly a line that I can see from the outside that I did not put on the egg. I can see it better with my other flashlight but I took it out of the room by accident (in my pocket) and keep forgetting to bring it back with me.

A lot of wrong end pips manage to hatch without assist...I take it you can't see it's beak moving in the air sac. With no other pipped eggs, I'd wait. Chances are higher that it's not ready yet and any assistance at this point can hurt it. Do any of the other eggs show an internal pip?

There's sure to be a lot of videos on YouTube, I bet. Will have a look when I have time (I'm revising for my 'etiology and epidemiology of poultry diseases' exam next week - eek!).
Ok I'll see what I can find...I think, as usual, I'm getting confused with this and micrograms.
And whoa! You definitely don't worry with me...you got a lot more going on with the exam! 🫨 I can't even pronounce those much less know what they are!

@FBMcrazy8 yeah I agree with this...I've seen em do some crazy things and be better off than most I've tried to assist.

So I didn't get pics of the jigsaw puzzle before removing most pieces to try and use better pieces from the scraps the builders left...even though they know I've asked for em the contractor himself took nearly all the good pieces I could have used away yesterday! Ticked me off but subcontractor gave me few pieces they were bout to trash! Sorta win!?
Anyways here's where we at and I pray I get this thing done this week! Atleast assembled and secured with hardware cloth before next week!
Definitely work in progress but thought it was worth the effort to put up the sturdier new scrap pieces than use smaller pieces that are old and half rotted.

No, none of the others have piped. I see movement by the air cell but not in. I honestly didn’t think I would assist anyway at this point because if it is yolk I’m seeing, which I’m extremely positive it is, it isn’t going to do her any good anyway. I honestly think her best chances are to probably stay in the egg as long as possible. I’m wondering though the chances of her kicking open the air cell and in turning the yolk kinda like got sucked in there…make any since??? It just doesn’t explain the ring I’m seeing. It’s only day 25 still but in about 3 hours will be the start to day 26. Their actual scheduled hatch day. All their air cells are drawn down including hers.

I’m editing to add…should I make a safety hole in the air cell? Or wait a little??

It grows wild here. My boys and I have had the misfortune of getting stung. Cooking it deactivates the chemical. Yes, nutritious. I believe it's picked before they bud.
Here too…it’s all up in my pasture. I’m thinking that I will be digging them up this year to give to our chickens. They want it they can have it. 😂

That didn't look so bad until the second pic. Poor girl 😥. I would die if I had that kind of open gash on my back. Looks like your skills in bird doctoring will make her good as new. What kind of bandage is that?
