What did you do with your flock today?

I love everyone’s pics! Seeing them reminded me I never posted the ones I got on Friday. I think I got more of Honey than I did of the chickens, but it’s been hot here (thankfully not as hot as it’s been for some of you), so I didn’t want to bother them too much. That and some of them are still molting.

Nugget. She didn’t want to stay still (she wanted on my lap), so it’s a miracle I got this one lol.

Molly. She was the same as Nugget.

Ahhh I just love Boxers! Honey is beautiful 😍 I love all your cute chickens too! Ranie looks a lot like my Charlie, but she has a lovely developed rose comb. Charlie’s comb is a bit weird haha. There’s a little nubb and for a long time looked like that was all she’d have! But it is starting to finally grow a bit, she’s 5.5 months old and I’m hoping she’s nearing egg laying!

#3 forest kitty 20210913_115931.jpg This one I will call Kahili, #2 will be Pu'u. I have another large cage and will get her set up today. She is thrilled to get a easy meal and has taken food from my hand. Pu'u is still very shy but I think Nahele/Forest kitty may be helpful with helping her ;)Nehele is isiting inside after playing outside.

With all of my cages getting filled with forest kitties I guess my chooks are going to have to walk home.

Tuff weekend with MIL. We are all exhausted- as it took all of us 100% hands on. Dementia is a tuff illness.

Thank you! She is a really pretty girl and very sweet and unassuming. I have never gotten a chicken egg before...she's my first that is nearing egg laying age and I am super excited for it! :D I have quail, and they lay eggs like little machines and I get excited to collect them every day haha. Check out this crazy egg I got a couple days ago! 24 grams!!

Awwww, they're such pretty little forest kitties!! I too think it's great you are helping the kitties and the birds. Your chickens will just need to be patient haha.

I'm sorry to hear that your MIL is struggling, dementia is indeed a very difficult illness. It's really great that you are both able to be there for her and help. Sounds like you owe yourself a day to recover and rest!! <3

Yesterday I could have napped for a week lol.

We had quial when I was a kid and I am trying hard not to notice them too much right now. They are such cute and efficient little critters. But where to fit them in.. 🤔 Love those eggs!! So the little blue is normal? Let us know what you get when and if you crack it. Do quail lay double yolkers?!!

Yes, getting these kitties off the mountain! The poor bird population! Forest is hunting my big chickens... they are 4x his size. He is fearless.
K also think they all may have a respiratory infection. Forests coughing has cleared but I can hear the 2 new ones cough. I'll make appointments today if I can. Still waiting for the world to wake up.

Haha, yeah they are both cute and efficient! They are egg machines from 6 weeks on and we are currently drowning in eggs haha. They are way more fragile than chickens though, holy moly. That blue egg is the typical size...they generally weigh between 10-14 grams. I love the pretty blue ones, and found the hen that laid that blue egg had broken her neck somehow on Sunday and was sadly dead in her pen. :( I cried. She laid such pretty eggs and was only 8 weeks old...but the blue layers seem especially fragile and prone to stress. They are the first to quit laying if you look at them funny! :) New layers are sometimes capable of laying several double yolkers but I think this egg came from my oldest hen who has been laying since May! :) She was my only one that laid double yolkers when first laying so I'm just assuming it was hers! :D I will definitely share pics of the inside when I open it! I'm pretty curious, so it will probably be soon!

Oh no! So sorry for your loss. I did not realize they were so fragile.
How long have you been raising them for? How do you like chickens comparatively?
