I didn’t get to see my chickens at all today and I feel sad! I volunteered to watch a friends dog as they had a schedule issue and no one to watch her for one night while they both went on business trips. She’d never been left alone before and was very upset and got terrible diarrhea and bloody poo then threw up. Poor thing was a nervous wreck, and tried biting me once too. So I opted to stay with her all of today instead of going home so she wouldn’t have to be alone and get stressed out again. :-( Sweet dog though, and I won her over by this afternoon
Was a bad day to be gone though! My husband messaged me while I was on a call for work that there was a coyote in our cup de sac and it had killed the neighbors cat. There was apparently a lot of screaming and yelling and crying…crying was mainly the neighbor kids over the cat. We live about a mile from a large park along the river and there are usually a few coyotes in the park but in 7 years we’ve never seen them wandering the streets near our house. Apparently another neighbor lost 7 rabbits 3 weeks ago, and a baby deer was dead in the church lot around the corner. A whole family of deer live in the church grounds. :-( AND we saw a giant skunk two doors down from us a couple nights ago! Who needs to move to the country?? I get Wildlife in my suburban neighborhood! So I had the husband coop up the chicken for a few hours just to be sure they weren’t a temptation, but I worried about them anyway! Our run isn’t crazy secure, so if a coyote really wanted to, he could break in. Been a chaotic couple days haha.
New rescue chicken, Elsafish (daughter named her) is a really unique and different little chicken. She is very chatty and when she gets worked up she sounds like she’s cackling like a witch almost
she’s very busy and makes very weird choices! We have her in a wire dog kennel that’s probably 2x4 feet and meant for HUGE dogs…I gave her a big cardboard box to hang out in so the dogs wouldn’t pester her thru the wire and gave her a roost bar. She spends all her time outside the box in about a 1x2 ft space however, and likes to perch on the box over her food dish and poop in it
Silly girl. She’s quite active and friendly though.
