Well today has been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster:-/ The hatch is finished and the baby that didn’t absorb it’s yolk died this afternoon, but the last egg that needed a bit of help seems to be okay so far and the Cochin baby is seriously adorable

I also cuddled some of the babies and caught this cute moment with my Polish and a baby d’Uccle that snuggled under her like a momma chicken

And tonight I went to put the chickens away and came up one short Cher is missing and it’s dark and she’s a tiny black Silkie and we think she’s been gone since lunchtime by squeezing out under the run fence when landscapers were here. My daughter has been sobbing all night Given her complete lack of predator awareness I’m not hopeful she will reappear Will comb the yard again in the morning. She’s so timid and sweet…I feel bad she’s probably terrified

Oh gosh @kurby that is a bitter sweet post. First I am so happy for you to have such a terrific hatch. Losses and all you did very well. Lots to be happy about.
I am really, really sorry about Cher. I hope she turns up somewhere weird like a nest box or tucked safely in a corner. Like you said, she is little and dark colored so easy to miss. You guys will be in my good thoughts ♡

Aloha gang. I think I told you that DH popped his knee the other day so I have been doing a bit of over time here. Nice to be force to take care of the big boys . I have been riding my scooter and saving on gas.
The rescues are doing well. Lots of problems but we will do what we can ♡ they sure eat and drink everything they can as fast as they can. Never put a chicken on a diet b4.

My flock is terrific. Just love them. They have been so tranquil? harmonious? IDK perfect is all I can say. Ka'iulani woofed down a big gecko today. Manono is becoming fun and beautiful not needy and weird. Think she is going to become my favorite chicken... well, they all are my favorite lol. So, even the boys are groovy... just look at all that pleasant-ness

And I got my temporary blind put in and it is doing the trick as I make my plan for the more permanent one. Gotta love a solution.

Everyone got extra outside time and m worms this eve. Good day.

Yikes! So the scan showed he'd done damage? Poor guy.

I thought of you yesterday when we heard gas prices are going to go up past $10/gallon ... i may need to trade in my car for a horse and buggy!!

Amazing! They look so much better already. I bet they never got enough to eat, so when you feed them, they're just geared to eat everything right away in case nothing comes for a while. Hopefully, they'll learn soon that food isn't scarce in their new home

What? Hugh?!! Crap. I did not hear that one. Well, maybe people will quit driving around mindlessly. That would be wonderful for the planet and for us... our roads and traffic. Ok. But if we do the math, loosing 8% of our oil but price increase more than doubling? Hmm sounds like just another case of organized crime and somehow not shocking at all. Hope it propels us off of large scale oil. ⚖ what a racket.

It is their breed. They are meat birds poor babies. Fat, fat, fat. They- well one especially is grossly overweight and with their messed up feet (and am sure a litany of other reasons = issues) they hobble pretty badly.
Maybe that is why I think my flock was being so perfect and polite? by comparison? Nah, they were just being good. Probably more of a calm b4 the spring storm.

@GG Dh got an x-ray but no official word back. So, we don't know what is up yet. He/we are more of a take it (very) easy mode and don't create more pain or damage. Everything we have googled says pretty much the same and it seems to be working for him. I just want him better cuz he drive me a little bonkers lol. So yep, horses are good and quiet lol

I will be be changing the chicken toilet..I mean coop..yeah coop today and of course second feeding time. Ahh the smell of chicken poo in the evening...

Speaking of chicken poop…We found Cher!!! YAY!!! She was in the big chicken coop squeezed down in the poop bin! Blended right in with all the poop! I did not even think to look in the poop bin But now she’s snuggled up under my chin and talking to me. Probably telling me how scary last night was poor girl! Thanks for all the positive thoughts! It helped
