What did you do with your flock today?

Hi gang! @kurby you can come ride my scooter anytime you want ♡
How old is your boy? I would not worry yet. He sounds like he was just trying to mate you. Mine have bit my feet and ankles and that is just cuz they need a girl or are young and clearly confused. I think an attack is raised hackles and spurs, not love bites. He just loves you so much and is having a hard time expressing it ♡ I'd maybe take a break from the shoulder roo bit till he gets sorted.

Oh, the eye is concerning. How long were the chooks together? There is the possibility it's another issue. Manono has lousy sight from birth, she is just special. I'm sure being vaxxed will offer some protection.
Take a deep breath ♡ maybe treat them to some vitamins or mothers in their water to boost some immune systems and make you feel like you are actively being pro-active

Today I shared 30 eggs w/ a guy who is going to do his own incubation and start a new flock for himself. I will load my bator in a few days too and hope he and I can do a hatch-along.
In turn he gave us 5 packs of beautiful smoked meat. I'm not huge on meat but do enjoy a few bite of smoked meat every now and then, especially with poi and onions 🤤 hehehe.
Anywho, chicken people are fun. ♡ like us guys. 😄

It has been nice and cloudy here. I've scraped my boards, cleaned and filled my waters and feeders. All I am going to do with the flock besides open the run later after I look for bugs with the chicks.

Gang says HI!
Starting to give me more clues on sex. Tails are getting more organized- or not. Combs coming in- or not. Some feather coloring is more mottled and some has become more stark and stunning. Only calling a few for sure but have some good clues now.

Thanks @TropicalBabies!! 🏍🏍

Yeah, I’m freaking out a bit less today. I got to thinking a couple things…if it is Mareks, there’s nothing I can do about it at this point because even having her in quarantine doesn’t avoid exposure from dander and crap. It’s not easy to do rigid biosecurity when you have kids. But also, tell me if this thinking is flawed? Most Mareks shows up by 20 weeks typically, but can show up later. The lady I got her from said she’s always been healthy and she’s had her from birth and she breeds Cochins and other breeds for 4-Hand has had no issues with any of their health. She’s about a year old, so over the past year wouldn’t some of the other chickens in her flock have shown signs? Plus I have other birds from her that were pullet age at the same time as Honey so I feel I would have seen it myself by now? Am I being Pollyanna 🤪 🥺 At this point does quarantine even matter? Her poop is normal, she eats and drinks and lays eggs. Her eyes are clear and she acts perfectly fine other than acting like she can’t see real well. Maybe a different thing caused her eye issues? I see the vet tomorrow, but she’s likely not going to say much different I’d imagine. I have all the baby chicks in the house too, so they’d all already be exposed too I’d guess. So I probably just need to take a deep breath and pray that all will be okay.

They got sanitized water and poultry cell and vitamins and probiotics so I suppose I can’t do more than that!

All your Brahmas are so gorgeous 😍😍 Did I tell you guys about my eBay life lesson? That when you make a bid you can’t take it back?? I suppose that should seem obvious but my brain just didn’t make that connection…so I bid on a bunch of eggs thinking I would narrow it down later. Well most I was outbid but I ended up winning three of the bids. The last one that I won, is 6 bantam buff Brahma hatching eggs from show quality stock supposedly. So I will get a few more little Brahmas if some of them survive the shipping and hatch! I figured it will probably be alright in the end since most shipped eggs don’t make it. BUT…8/10 of the bantam EEs are developing as of yesterday and at least 4-5 of the 8 d’Anver eggs looked promising. I realllllly don’t need more chicks 😳 I’m gonna try to find some of them homes before they hatch but it will be hard to choose. 😩

Anywho…it’s a lot of highs and lows around here! Trying to stay positive! Thanks for letting me vent 🥰

That's awesome! I need to find a guy like that to trade with!

Excellent point @kurby. I do think age is a big factor and who has she been around. Don't suppose breeder noticed that cute heart in her eye b4? Did you post on emergencies? Maybe you can get some experienced input.

Love the buff banty's. Is there such a thing as too many chickens? Don't ask your DH to answer that question- the answer will is no. Never too rich or thin or have too many chickens. Just need a bigger properties ♡

On my little property that I am stuck on I'm thinking the answer is yes. I'm feeling crowded. My old gals are bossy, my babies are michevious, my cockerels... well, yah know, harassing the ladies. It's dry and dusty too. Im just full of complaints today lol. Forest has been waking me up extra early the last few days and I guess I just need a nap.

Oh and yes, Puff is only 8 months old and it was definitely not a mean attack. It was just super surprising and it’s the first time he’s ever been like that. But you are right, I didn’t feel any fear and still don’t. He’s been fine since and I haven’t done shoulder sitting with him but I have held him and let him stand on my leg. Definitely not the same as how Eevee acted with my husband where he chased him and tried to spur him. He’s a good boy for a hormonal young rooster. Just a little sad he’s growing into a mature boy that doesn’t need as many love snuggles 🥺

I feel you on the needing a nap thanks to the animals 🤪 Between my ridiculous children that are up at 5 am fighting and the dog standing on me and licking my face, and my husband singing in the shower…I rarely get to sleep long enough! 🤪🤪

Yeah the breeder lady said her eye has looked like a heart for as long as she can remember and that she’s always been kind of “goofy”. I’m thinking she may have struggled with her eye sight all along but she said she’s always been healthy. So maybe I can hope for the best.

I definitely have reached capacity on my property too. Mainly because of all the cleaning it requires 😆 The geriatric dogs that can’t make it outside quick enough, the cat box, the chick brooders, the quail pens, the chicken coops and my insanely messy children…I’m TIRED 😴 😩

I’m easing off the quail and increasing the chickens…but I don’t wanna burn out! And I am pretty cranky haha. I need some island time on a pink moped! 😁
