What did you do with your flock today?

Happy Sunday all!
So sorry for you loss @PJ :hugs :hugs
Well, I'm sure Mo had a wonderful life and loved all you did for him.
Do you know what he died from forsure?

@FD. Your coop looks fabulous. Truly beautiful. Makes me want to paint mine lol 🤔😉 cept mine is pretty much just 2x4s and will never look that lovely. Well, enjoy the perfection as we all know it only lasts for so long.... 💩

I did a name change on Geegee. Since she's my keeper I thought Gracie suited her more. And I finally named the Buff Roo Beetlejuice. Only 5 more names to go lol.

Welp. I'm buying a new ride. Take that gas prices! Been waiting for years for DH to upgrade so I could move into his but he decided to keep his so I found another. Most exciting. Just a little fun one 😉

Thanks! Beigie, who is known for her very watery poops, has already stained the walls a bit. 😭 oh well, they're just chickens, they probably don't care.

I love your new motorcycle!
Thanks. I had him for several months but realized his legs looked weird though didn't think anything of it. Yesterday I realized what it was since it's progressed. First I soaked his legs in warm water and scrubbed them. Made a paste of DE and scrubbed it into the scales of his legs. I'm going to do an olive oil treatment next. I can't use chemicals because I have chemical allergies. Poor buddy.
I'm sorry you're dealing with mites. : (
What kind of DE paste did you make? I thought DE deactivated once it got wet.

I wonder if you could use a baking soda paste? I've never delt with leg mites (yet, but maybe soon lol) and only half glanced at byc posts on them. 🤔 have you had b4 @fd? Your pretty much a poultry wizard.

I did some harness training with my rooster.

I don't think so, but now I might have to go check. I've suspected some of my birds might've had it in the past, but those were typically the older and/or feather-footed birds, and it never progressed past sliiiightly raised, dull scales. I hope I never have to deal with it. It seems impossible to know when they're actually gone. :/
I've never heard of DE deactivating once it got wet. Because you can take it internally to get rid of parasites and that is impossible to stay dry. Just added water to DE and scrubbed it in.
Really? Interesting. I was always told to not bother with it, since it's useless when wet and can give the chickens respiratory problems.

Cute!

It's best when dry but it can get wet and dry again and have the same effect. It can cause problems ONLY if you use it too much or improperly. There is a trick to using it and most people dont know how to use it properly. It works but it is a consistent application if you have a parasite issue. It's not a one time ordeal.

We are getting a little rain today. Yippee!
So I let the flock out early after my walk, was not raining yet and just coming light. They got a treat of bread and I mean treat as they don't often get and they do love. They smell like a pack of wet pillows now lol but are enjoying the change of weather and have not screamed for their scratch at this time. That I give when I ring the bell and they go back in their run.

Not much to do till the rain passes. Everyone is in good health ♡

Well we survived the first day of 98 degrees for 2022…I had misters going and bought some itty bitty AC units for the chickens and set those up. I love all the shade the trees offer them, so far so good. I also got a real chicken sitting chair for my daily visits. It’s a plastic (heavy duty kind) Adirondack chair with a leg rest and cup holders! 😍 So much more comfortable than the old worn down wooden chair! I’ve allowed that chair to become a roost for them, and they love it. I found myself missing Newbell today while I sat with them all. I looked forward to visits with her every day. I miss her squawking and excitement for treats. I love all my chickens, but some have character that’s hard to forget. :-( My neighbor up the street has started leaving leftover veggies on our porch for the chickens. Yesterday’s bunch was a giant bag of cabbage, two heads of romaine, a big cauliflower head, and some green herbs. So yesterday they got cabbage and today they got all the rest chopped up and mixed in with Greek yogurt scrambled eggs and bananas. Lots of happy chickens 😍 I love watching the young ones get a prime piece that they run around trying to hide from the rest of them 😆 Newbell was the queen of that when she was young ❤️

All of the babies are growing so fast! I can’t believe how big they all are. I will be doing vaccinations soon, and adding a couple of my babies to the outside flock this weekend. The lavender Orpington and BLRW chicks I got at the Poultry Expo are officially too big for the brooder, and the bantams are still too tiny to be outside. I think I may have gotten lucky with the BLRW and gotten a pullet, her name is Roxy. But the third try for a female Lav Orp looks to be another failure 😣 I’m torn too, because I think it may actually be a lavender cuckoo pattern and I’m certain it will be gorgeous. Super sweet too, sits with me for a good hour at a time, let’s me hug and pet it, and so very soft. I named it Hope (hoping it’s a girl) but may be renaming it Nohope!! 🤪😩 Little Ruby (buff Brahma) is getting bigger and I feel like she might be a she, but I know they are slow to mature. And the baby d’Anver chicks that hatched on Saturday are super tiny and adorable 🥰 I’m enjoying being surrounded by sweet baby chicks and also can’t wait to have them all outside 😆
