What did you do with your flock today?

Here's where I'm at now.

I think I'm going to turn the bottom into a baby cage...though I might keep using my portable cage that I can set up as needed or pull out when empty.
The ducks didn't mind the noise at all today...which is good because I didn't feel like catching them more fish...lol.

Yesterday's goodies are down to just stems left...but they're not finished with it yet...it takes them a bit to eat those but they never quit trying!

And I had a surprise visitor today. This is an emerald fig beetle. They're about an inch long and just beautiful.

Looking good! You got some skills @chicksnawholebunchmore!
Your ducks are absolutely dreamy beautiful. Man, I am in lub.
Beetle is super cool too. Love things like that ♡

Got a cute video of the chick and it's first meal worms. I can tell we are going to be good friends. May smuggle her into the flock so I can have a broody and just deal with her flighty feral havoc raising personality.... maybe. Or just try and see how it goes for a bit.

This weekend I finally built a dust bath box and nesting areas. They figured them out pretty quickly.

We have had one hen start laying around 15 weeks and another just started laying today. Both are rocks that are laying; one with a dark brown egg another with Cream colored eggs. Here’s some photos!

Good looking birds and eggs!

Got the primer on today and dug around to see what color paints I have on hand...blue, black, white and tan.
My foot went fussy today so I'll have to see how it's behaving in the morning. Don't think it liked climbing a ladder to paint inside at all...but I was having fun...lol. I thought ahead enough to build the boxes on the porch and get help to put them in place...but should have painted them there too. Oops. But hopefully a day off it and it'll be ok. If not, I might just pop my cast boot on and finish it anyhow.

The day ended with a beautiful sunset...it was a good day. 🙂

Your coop looks great!! Wish I had your handy skills!

That is a lovely sunset! I couldn’t be outside long today…I don’t know how you are outside painting in AZ desert heat! My birds are so hot…I lost two quail to the heat :-( I got lazy and forgot to put ice packs in for them. Now they have a fan and get ice packs and fresh water. It’s a lot of work keeping them all cool enough! Orpingtons are so fluffy!! I can’t wait for Fall….I spend all summer counting the days until football and fall temps. 😩

Lol..me too. I miss snow and cold, brisk air that makes you feel frisky!

Sorry about your quail! What kind are you raising?

Yes, the brisk Fall air is just the BEST. I miss Idaho in the Fall, fall here in the Central Valley is not nearly as cold and crisp and perfect.

I have Coturnix quail! About 25 of them. They’re a nice change from chickens but I may end up phasing out the quail for awhile, just not hatch new ones and maybe keep a small breeding group. My chickens take up a lot of time and quail are more work to keep clean. Would be better when I can build them an aviary with more room and some dirt to play in…so many plans I have that require more land and less neighbors! 😆
