What did you do with your flock today?

Oh gosh, beat!
Got a text from a friend saying she had a friend who was helping out a gal too old to take care of her babies anymore.

I had just met a gal picking up manure from us saying she was thinking about getting chickens. Well, person + chickens = ♡ So, we went and made it happen. The older gal did not have a good set up and we had to break it down, basically cuttining it apart then loading everything on my truck for the new mom to use as temp housing while they built their coop this weekend or at least started it. I think the chickens are going to have a much better life than what they had and the older gal has one less thing to worry about. Happy ending.
When I drove up to our house my teens were fluttering in the yard with excitement. So beautiful. I'm so happy to be home with them. Such fun beauties.
That sounds like a day well spent!

I built a new platform and perches for my outside run and gave 12 silkies a bath/blowdry/dust bath because I found lice on my crossbeak😥🤢 also cleaned and dusted their whole area with DE. Wondering now if that is why I lost two chicks last week randomly. Good times.
Here are a few of my birds for your viewing pleasure; Chickovsky, Millie, Eddie Feather, Pharies and Millie, Bananarama and Luna, & Persephone
:)
They're all adorable 😍 I love the name Chickovsky!

I spent the day outside working on my new little coop. It's tiny...but I met my goal of using nothing but scrap and reclaimed wood. Not sure if that's a good thing or not yet. One or two more days and I'll be done though.

It was fun working with the ducks milling around at my feet. The drill kinda scared them at first. So I filled their little swimming pool with duckweed, pennywort and mosquito fish. They forgot to notice the noisey drill after that. I'd love to spend one day as a duck. They look like they have so much fun!

Well I added to the gang...again!

Awesome! Reclaimed wood is great, a huge part of my coop is pallet wood:) sounds like some happy duckies

Good morning gang and happy aloha Sunday!

Well, yesterday I was scooting out of the yard to get a bag of scratch from the feed store down the street when I heard young chirping under the house. :he

Soooo, scooped the little up. Normally they are afraid and it is much like chasing a mouse but this little was in the middle of my flock and let me pick it right up. Loved that. I figured I would be able to keep it safe from my cats, who were having their noon faint from the heat and did not muster to the distress chirps and find it mom and return the little cuspid. No mom. May have the dreaded solo chick to care for.
It eventually quieted down and snuggled into the feather duster. I have a ceramic heating disk thank goodness so I did not have to set up a heating pad. The good behavior of the chick and convenience of the heating disk made me feel better. Guess I will raise her inside the cabin with me and have a bit of a house chicken if I can't find it's mom today.

@ChicksnMore love the recycle /re-purposed materials and the duck company and story. What fun and I hope you share photos with more stories. Sounds a bit magical.

@Jessijay -love it! I find it kind of a quirky challenge to see how many materials I can scrounge and reuse. I enjoy and admire many byc-ers who are able build functional and charming coops out of pallets etc.

Princess Gracie, Lovey and Faith busted. Hope is actually inside a nest box. This would be great as they are almost POL... but it is bed time and this has become a habit. I have too many chickens. Last night Beetlejuice squeezed himself into the mini coop. 2 good sized sleeping roosts stay empty 12 feet away cuz they all want to cram in the run. Just love my chickens ♡

@Gammas Bearded Babies they're so cute! My oldest loves cochins...she says they look so huggable and poofy❤️ I've never owned any though.

@TropicalBabies that's a lucky little baby! I'll take my phone out with me today for pics...it's messy messy messy right now though! Here's where I'm at now though. You can see the baby ducks playing underneath.

My peafowls are like that...I built two lovely nest boxes in places I know they normally like to nest...but instead they're trying to nest on top of the baby cage...which I meant to be a protected roost. It's eight or so feet off the ground so not good. But they're happy...lol.

Soooo @GBB... where did you find those little cuties? 😍 I absolutely love cochins. Not easy to find here so I really enjoy seeing photos (hint-hint 😉 one and all). Congrats on your growing flock? Lol- so what # are you up to? Obviously still manageable ♡♡♡
