My dmv appointment was yesterday and I am happy to say I aced my š test with 100%. I'm legal![]()

I hope Beigie recovers well. I've always used hydrogen peroxide for maggots, followed by antibiotic ointment. Is the permectin something you read about for treatment?Yesterday I made the horrifying discovery that my Beigie-girl has/had flystrike. Sheās been acting a little off the past few days, but she was still eating, drinking, hanging out with the flock as much as she normally does, etc. so I didnāt really think much of it. Plus, she has ascites and egg issues, so itās pretty common for her to have an off day, especially when itās hot like it has been.
Well, when I let them out yesterday, I found her laying in a weird spot. Preparing for the worse (but still not expecting this) I checked her butt to see if there was a visible egg or something. Instead I saw a million maggots crawling around.
At that point I called room out, and we bathed her, twice, in a permectin solution. And by āweā, I mean I got everything set up and watched Room do it, lol. I donāt do maggots (yet), and sheās better at bathing birds. I can handle most things, but bathing maggot butts isnāt one of them.
After that, I wormed her, although after two days of researching I donāt think that was necessary, and then set up a cage inside for her. I also spent yesterday scrubbing out two coops, the main one and the Polish coop, just in case. She doesnāt go in the other two often, so I didnāt bother with those.
Iāve been keeping an eye on her, but so far no signs of any more. Iām really hoping the permectin killed off the eggs and we wonāt have to do this again.I put Neosporin on her wounds, but starting tomorrow I want to do it at least twice a day.
Iāve been feeling bad about not catching it sooner, but after seeing the other pictures, it doesnāt look like theyāve been there more than a day, maybe two at the latest, so thatās made me feel a little better.
Beigie is normally really bad about captivity, but sheās been pretty chill the last few days. Itās both a good thing, and a little concerning. Sheās still eating and drinking, and Iāve been pumping her full of anything sheāll eat so sheās been pretty happy, but I still worry. This bird has been through waaaay too much to die because of some stupid flies. Sheās been perking up a little today, so I donāt think she will, but I donāt want to curse it. Plus I donāt know how sheāll do with them plus the ascites.
At least they werenāt there long enough to tunnel through her. The wounds look awful, but I donāt see any actual holes or anything. Which isnāt to say theyāre definitely not inside her, buuuut. . .
Sheās a trooper. If any of my birds could survive this, itāll absolutely be her. XD
I've never encountered an aggressive hen! Sounds like her little devil horns go well with her personalityOn a different, less disgusting note, Toad has started to come after me when I go outside. I donāt know why it started, but Iāve been ready to send her to the neighbors house, lol.
Sheās 2yo so itās seems so late to go aggressive, plus itās been a few months since I let her free range, so I have no idea why sheās starting now.
Sheās one of my Poles, and sheās got a massive comb and spurs. Iāve honestly been waiting for her to start crowing. Iāve seen her lay before, so I know sheās a hen, but ugh. Sheās been creeping up on me everytime I sit outside, and at one point she attacked me, spurs and everything, with no warning. Iāve grabbed/pushed passed her/āpeckedā her enough times that sheās finally getting a little scared of me, but it hasnāt really helped much. Really not happy with this. :/
