What did you do with your flock today?

My kids newly claimed babies are safely in the brooder with fresh food and water. But are they happy? No! They're screaming and screaming because no one's holding them...lol.

O my poor ears!

What's really sad is we leave in roughly 2 weeks. I hope they remember her when we get home and I hope they're not too sad when we leave and no one's bundling them up to sleep and sight see.

🌺Official good morning and happy Aloha Friday peoples!
So I am busy doing my thing this morning (sewing and cooking a big pot of beans 😁lol) and I hear all this crowing going on outside. It is still early- 7am at this time. I can tell I have at least 1 feral roo out there who sounds close and Spider going off further away towards the run. I pop my head out the Dutch door and lo and behold I see the feral roo doing a dance for B&C... he sees me and starts to leave and they start following him into the forest right before my eyes! I'm like nope, can't steal the grandkids chickens... but what mostly shocked me was a roo trying to entice what I have been resigned to prossibly/probably being a cockerel. I am still very unsure of B's sex @ almost 5 months old. My early morning extra crower is still happening but still pretty lousy. B still has no saddle, hackles, color bleed... and even seems rounder. I think the rooster wooing is a big clue... pretty sure the dance was for both and both skipped after the dashing man happily. If B was a boy the roo would have pounded him. So, think @FrankieDoodle is spot on. :barnie chickens! So B is a pullet.... well, today anyways lolView attachment 3262083
Think I will take those 2 down the mountain to re-intro early. See if I still have that extra crower up here. 🤔💡
And what a wonderful world to be wild in! I had to go look at your pic of the wildboy in the woods again ❤️. The woods are so beautiful!

Guess who's perching tonight?

Oh yup! Those angles on B make her look a lot more like a she! I think @FrankieDoodle was right too! I’m so glad to be wrong hehe.

Well another vacation another bird sitting mishap 🤦🏼‍♀️

I opened my coop camera up this morning to see how they were doing with the new auto doors while we are away…and glanced behind the chicken coop and it looked very much like one of the quail pens was open…and then a quail went marching on by the camera shortly after to confirm I was not seeing things! SO had to call the pet sitter and she had to rush and get her kid up and ready and spent the morning catching wandering quail. She was sure she got them all, but tonight I got notice of motion in the big chicken run and there he sits! Just wandering about like he owns the place! She couldn’t find him in the dark so he may or may not make it overnight. Also if you look really close…you can see Spider on my chicken sitting chair…sleeping. ALL the other chickens have figured out the new coop situations except Spider 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ Even Josephine who seems far more derpy than Spider 😆 So the pet sitter has to collect him and put him in the coop thru the nest box. Seriously, who knew birds were such a hassle when on vacation 🤪

Vacation has been fun so far, seeing some of the sights of Chicago today and the football game is tomorrow! Notre Dame football games have been on my bucket list for a long time!

And last but not least, we celebrated Sophie’s 18th birthday on Thursday morning before we left. Sweet old girl just keeps on keeping on! 🥰

Night all!

Well hi! Your only about 4 hours from me! :frow

I’m making a 2.5 hour trip (one way) today for my daughters game and for my dog to meet her boyfriend. We had plans on staying the night but didn’t have anyone to put the chickens up. It is almost like kids, they think they can stay up all night and do whatever they want, sleep where ever they want because mom and dad isn’t home 🤣. I hope your little rebel quail made it over night!

Sounds like several flocks are havin a good time lately everywhere! I'm not on vacation thankfully but I tell ya these lil cochins! I just thought the d'uccles were craycray! The cochins....oh Lord help me!
2 nights ago they flew up into the monitor roof rafters and slept til I went and got em out with a hawk to our backs just waiting for an opportunity! Thankfully I caught Coco when he flew down off the rafter!
Then last night...I tucked them in the coop on the roost and they beat me back to the run!
So I said forget it and went to the house.
Checked the camera and this is where they slept all night on this tiny gallon treat jar...don't ya know they are tired today! They constantly wiggled around all night long!
And don't ya know now this morning they are asleep...on the porch line they should have done with others at night!
Goofballs!

@kurby22 (and everyone else) how experienced are you at sexing Silkies? I know it’s mostly impossible to tell until they crow or lay, especially when they’re still pretty young, but do you see anything on her that screams cockerel to you?
She’s listed as a pullet, I assume around 10wo, and this is the only pic of her right now.
