What did you do with your flock today?

YAY!! They are adorable ducks and have clearly hit the jackpot! Your coop and duck area looks amazing and they are gonna love it! šŸ˜ I know I would if I were a duck šŸ˜„ I’m glad you were able to talk to her about what transpired and she could share her experiences and all is on the table. Makes you feel like you found a trustworthy arrangement and that’s always nice! Plus horses šŸ˜šŸ˜ She sounds like an awesome lady! Can’t wait to hear more duck stories!
Thank you!!! It is nice, I don’t know how long ago her incident was but it was after I got my last set. She had all her breeding ducks where her growing ducks originally were. Now the growing ducks (the ones we got them from) are in the barn. She has so many several horses and has sold a few already. One of which my husband so wanted. But I’m sure we will be getting a horse before I get goats but I’m wondering how well they would do together. I don’t think there would be a problem but I don’t really know. I can’t wait to share ducky stories!!

I know lots of people get goats so their horse has a friend! I think they do pretty well together! I’m so jealous! I want land so I can have goats and horses too šŸ˜„ Someday!! Until then I will count on all your stories to get me through 😬

Today was very low key…I survived all my coaching without incident and we won volleyball and tied at soccer…so it was worth powering through to make sure the kids got to play! Soccer was tough though—was over 45 mins away, I was coaching alone (other coach on a vacation), played a team who’s coach was telling them to elbow and push, the other team had a ringer who used the F word and pushed and stepped on feet and such, and the ref was old and old school and let a LOT of it go as ā€œsoccer is a physical sportā€ 😣 So one of my parents came over to yell at the ref about his unfair calls and all the while I’m thinking…how far away is the bathroom šŸ˜†šŸ˜£ Had girls crying over goals and mean words and unfair calls, one of my girls flopped in true soccer style so ref would see the girl pushing her…it was super. šŸ˜†šŸ˜† Volunteer for the kids! They say…it’s worth it and fun!! They sayā€¦šŸ¤Ŗ

I noticed on my chicken cam, the little splash Cochin baby Ariana Sushi huddled in a corner and brought her in. Her poops looked a bit bloody so I started treating her for coccidiosis and later in the day she had a poop with worms in it, so I also started her with dewormer. I hope she makes it through the night, I’m so scarred after having Axel die after deworming 🄓 I am not surprised she is sick though—she’s one of the weird animals that will happily eat her own poop droppings 😣😣 Quickest way to get sick with worms and parasites and I’m hoping she grows out of this habit if she makes itšŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļøShe’s always been small and behind the others, but manages to do all the chicken things anyway so fingers crossed.

Also my white d’Anver eggs are already on Day 10. I got 19 eggs and after candling tonight, I have 3 I feel really good about and one that’s iffy. The iffy one seems a bit overly saddled and veining is weaker, so my guess is it will make it to lockdown and then be DIS. Two have really strong vessels and movement, so hoping for at least two to hatch šŸ¤žšŸ»šŸ¤žšŸ»

Looking forward to a cool temps week and some time in the AM with my babies. I’ve missed them! 🄰
We have this going on with the refs for basketball. And they don’t have a lot of refs because no one wants to do it. It wouldn’t be so bad for them really if they made fair calls. Granted I’m sure they can’t possibly see everything but there are just some things that are just so obvious!!! And what ill behavior! Yeah it’s a sport but we are talking about kids, not adults. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

I love your Cochins name!!! How cute!! I hope she makes it!! šŸ¤ž Also fingers crossed for your eggs! I hope everything goes well there too!

And love the cooler temps! Ours are at least somewhat normal fall temps now instead of freezing!

@kurby22 I'm glad you made it through the soccer game...DH coached our kids in soccer when they were 3-6...hilarious but good experience lol.
I can't believe Ariana Sushi is sick now! I sure hope she is better this morning!!!
We BOTH need a farm!!! I came in all upset yesterday after blood was everywhere again on Joey and Bluey and told DH I needed a farm and he said what so you can get more chickens?!? I mean...I already got more chickens on kitchen counter ...2 hatches actually lol.
I am so sorry you lost so many of the d'Anvers! I pray those couple hatch and are healthy for you!!!

@FBMcrazy8 those ducks are darlings!!! They look right at home in the new area too! Yall really did kick butt to get that finished and it looks amazing! Can't wait to hear bout all their adventures with yall!

@ChicksnMore can't wait to hear bout yalls last adventure!!!

I did end up double checking the bachelor coop for rocks and what not and put different feeder in there that didn't have the metal bar going across since I have a feeling that is how Joey lost his first toenail. And he's back in there by himself. Only Daisy is laying so I gate to separate her from the others...maybe I could find Joey a girl older for him...he is a year old, my oldest. He has been with all the others in main run/coop since they were all born...the problem is he's been isolated since Tuesday when I saw all the blood from his other toenail missing. I didn't see him and Bluey fighting on any of the cams but they immediately went to fighting soon as I put Joey back in with em all.
I did notice Bluey trying to mate Daisy so I'm guessing that is what sparked the fight?
I'm so wishy washy as to what to do and what I even want to do with em all....I say I want to just have em as pets but then I get ideas for breeding to make this gorgeous porcelain Satin and I got all sidetracked again and ordering eggs! The mating isn't so bad, like yall said, once the girl is willing. And Daisy is very willing at this point and laid eggs every day except 1 last week! Not bad for a Satin! And they are dark beige colored...not like my others before that were just cream colored.
So idk what to do.

Oh that is awesome to hear. But would it make a difference if they were miniatures? I wouldn’t think so. But I told my husband that she has ducks and chickens and 2 dogs just roaming around the fences and none of them are bothered by each other. Which I know he knows but I think he would be worried if the horse killing the goat. Which I too get cause I would be broken if that happened. I will gladly share my stories! 😁 One day I bet you will get it!

Thank you!! I’m so excited! I can’t wait to share! ā¤ļø

Im still new to the chicken world but I would think an older hen might put him in line too. Although I could see sticking him with a bunch of males might help too. He might just need a few older chickens with him to put him in line. Hens or Roosters. Maybe Daisy being mated did set him off.

Yeah I just don't "know" anyone with bantams. My friend has standard size chickens and pretty sure even her young boys she's trying to rehome are bigger than Joey. I'd hate for him to get hurt...any worse.
I just felt so awful for sweet Bluey! THAT is the kind of boy a flock needs though! Gentle and sweet!
Maybe I've made Joey the way he is by luvin on him too much since he was a chick.
I didn't really do that with Bluey cuz he was more hesitant and like a girl.
I've created this monstrous Joey!

Yeah I would honestly hate for him to get hurt too. That wouldn’t do much good either. I think it would be different to find some his size. I would just hate to see you have to get rid of him because I do know and see how much you love him. Maybe giving him his own little flock would be best to try first. I don’t know if you can do that but it is for sure worth a shot.

I had intensions of putting up the net today so they could get out of the duck house sooner than later but it is so windy I have to wait for my husband. I think my netting would tear before I got it up. And I would ask my second oldest to help me but she has a basketball game tonight and in school. They are ok though. I have put food and water for them in there and they have so much space. Rain is also coming, so I’m hoping my husband and I can get the net up before it gets here. He said that he would do it no matter if it was raining or not but I also don’t need him getting sick again.

On to the chickens, I let them out this morning and one more pullet is equating for Ying. That one is a Barred Plymouth Rock. I’m not sure if it is Salt or Pepper or if the other one is even squatting for him. Getting closer to eggs. I need to figure something out for them to use as fake eggs. I’m gonna try Easter eggs and see if that works for now.
