I used my husband's old golf balls.@Gammas Bearded Babies nope…I can’t make you feel better. However, there was some that was WAY more. And really after some of the prices and shipping costs (unless you get stuff from Chewy anyway and free shipping) you would be pretty close. Some offer more eggs though that would pretty close to the same price. HOWEVER you have them in your hands and you can use them right away. You don’t have to wait.
Poor little mites! They're certainly having a rough start but they're still with us so that's got to count for something and you're taking the best care of them. Sesame seeds are excellent for chicks, especially black ones. They're full of vitamin E which helps with wry neck caused by vit deficiency. If they've got slightly runny poop I wouldn't worry too much about constipation. Do you feed greens this early with chicks? I start with the tiny, individual florets from broccoli. It tends to go down well and is also full of B & E vits. Mine also like dandelion greens and spinach finely shredded. I figure mom feeds them alsorts of seeds and greens from very early on and as long as they have chick flint grit they should be fine. Stanley was on chick crumb for precisely 4.days before I gave up trying to stop Pru feeding him all manner of 'unsuitable' foodstuffs - including a French fry she found under the cooker! They are just so precious!!! There is never enough time to spend with em all!
I really need to stop hatching!!!
Rats! Thats such a pain! And u r fixing to be gone too! Ugh! Hopefully those cords will come asap!
Well....the 2 are about the same as they were yesterday...the runt back to pecking its feet and chirping loudly and the possible wry neck had fallen over before I got up this morning and where I'm giving them all the vitamins their poo is little wetter and it had it all over its side from fallin underneath the heat plate.
So quickly washed it off and blew dry it...soaked runts feet and blew dry it....it's crop just is barely there. So I'm wondering if the nearly constant chirping is failure to thrive.
Made more mash with vit e, b and poultry cell and nutridrench. All small doses for the 5 to eat.
May give em some sesame seeds to help with runny poo ....
Someone here had told me months back whenever one had the splay legs and a slipped tendon that the sesame seeds were quick easy treat to help with vit B deficiency....then someone else said no it constipates em...so idk.
Maybe it'll help in this case?!
I added some pine flakes to their paper towel bedding to distract runt from its feet pecking...things are a little quieter finally!
God alone knows what she's up to! We have two cats which she gets on extremely well with so could be she's showing some gratitude- but I think it's most likely she's complaining about her mom taking too long laying an egg. Penelope Sweet pea is very vocal in her opinions.Do you have a cat that she is emulating?Showing her appreciation, or frustrated about not getting her turn in the favorite box? Ah, the chicken life. Full of surprises!
Well look at that! Miracles never cease.View attachment 3313521View attachment 3313528View attachment 3313524she has been hanging around Spider. Think she is ready to start laying again and wants to be mated. Does not look like he is taking the bait as he struts his stuff towards ol Mazie. He does love his old matriarchs that is forsure. What a studView attachment 3313539
I haven't given the Silkies anything other than starter, vitamins and the sesame seeds since they are only a week old except for runt lol.Poor little mites! Not liking the look of Ferdy's feet today, they look very red around the feather shafts and he has a dark mark with a pink ring starting on the sole of his foot. Not sure yet if it's a rose thorn or other splinter (He got into the garden clippings bag) or if it's bumblefoot starting. Either way, he had a pedicure, foot blow dry and antibacterial foot dust. I've put a corn plaster over the suspicious mark to relieve pressure on it. He's not too happy about the plaster, keeps trying to eat it. Not sure what else I can do.
Oh I'm so glad Hope is doing so much better!!!Well look at that! Miracles never cease.View attachment 3313521View attachment 3313528View attachment 3313524she has been hanging around Spider. Hopefully all the extra vitamins will do the trick. Do you use medicated starter? Just wondering as it's not really available over here?I haven't given the Silkies anything other than starter, vitamins and the sesame seeds since they are only a week old except for runt lol.
Now the 2 wk old cochins are out in big brooder looking at all the flock and have gotten a few field trips with the flock while I protected and made sure no bullying went on.
Oddly my 3 girls laying are the worst at bullying right now - everybody not just the cochin babies.
I'm so sorry Ferdy's havin feet probems still! U think it is bumblefoot or infected feather follicle or something?
