Hopefully all the extra vitamins will do the trick. Do you use medicated starter? Just wondering as it's not really available over here?

Really not sure what's going on with Ferdy. The redness is on the outer side of both feet, just where the feathers emerge and seems to be spreading up his shanks. It looks inflamed rather than infected. It has rained a lot and the ground is really soaked so maybe it's to do with that. None of the girls or little Stanley are affected though.

Idk doesn't sound good if it is going up his shanks though.

Yall ever had a chick fail to thrive?!
It's the little runt...I see it eat and drink but it doesn't have a full crop and there is barely a crop there at all. And what crop is there is not like the other chicks...the runts crop is mushy. This is also the same chick that pecks its own feet and legs a lot and chirps loudly off and on seemingly for no reason.
It just stopped chirping so got a few pics where yall could see the crop of the chick on the left which is normal...then the runt chick crop is to the right of that chick.
I gave it a mixture of the warm water with molasses and some nutridrench...it took several drops from the dropper but would actually fall asleep after taking so many sips.
Edited to say I finally did get almost 2 ml of the mixture in.
I did see it poop a while later and it acted like it hurt and was trying to peck back there as it was doing it...ya think it could be constipated?
Let me know if yall think it best to put this on the emergency threads.

Those are some really good helpful tips! I'm glad you chimed in with them and I am going to file those myself.
I was wondering if they have access to grit yet. I know that they are just days old but under the circumstances it may help get their crop straight. Though... lots going on. ♡♡♡

I have seen a lot of ftt with the feral population here. The moms just leave them to die.
Manono was/is a ftt. She made it through and lives an ok life BUT it was probably her egg that gave me the cross beak chick. She is still a bit of a special needs girl but she has a beautiful heart.

I call her the Nanny because she not only raised a brood practically as her own but she is super gentile and watchful of all my littles. What s not to love about Manono ♡♡♡

I don’t believe there is chick grit in starter no…

My little splash Cochin was looking like a FTT too, super small, took forever to feather in, had constant pasty butt, cried a bunch…I was sure she (maybe he) wouldn’t make it but vitamins and diligence seem to have paid off. I’ve also lost a few FTT. I think it just depends on the sweet bird and what’s taking awhile to catch up!

Chick starter doesn't have chick grit in it. It's formulated to be digested by the chick without it. I'd get chick flint grit asap too. He/she does sound like they might be struggling to poop a bit. Has it been pooping regularly prior to now? As an aside, while Ferdy wasn't ftt, his crop is on the right too and it's never been an issue for him. I agree with Kurby22, I think a big factor on ftt chicks surviving is how strong the will to live is. All we can do is support them to the best of our abilities. We have a product here called 'Digestihealth' it's a prebiotic and probiotic in one and I use a few grains in chick food from day one. The whole flock has it mixed in their evening meal and it's all but eliminated digestive problems in my lot. It's used by commercial chicken farmers over here. Maybe you have something similar you can add?

She's so pretty! You'd never know she'd been ftt looking at her. I love her Columbian type markings. All your chickens are gorgeous. What breed are they?

I'll try to get some pictures of Ferdy's feet and legs when I let him out this morning. Any suggestions gratefully accepted! Hopefully he'll stay still enough to let me but he's always so anxious to see his ladies - he seems to have the chicken version of 'morning glory'!

Just out of curiosity, do anyone else's roosters join in with the egg song? I swear Ferdy is louder than all the girls put together and seems to lead the chorus

It's will to live has to be fairly strong cause I had moved it over to the basket with the wryneck chick underneath the heating pad and I came back in and the runt was gone! I panicked looking everywhere! Even checked the cats! Nothing!
I got to looking in the brooder and there it was back in the brooder with the others!
It had to have climbed and jumped in order to do that!
