What did you do with your flock today?

Oh boo! I am certain we could do without that storm system!! Hopefully it stays south-ish! My flock is doing okay...they are all running through the gambit of yeast and canker and dry pox issues it seems. So I have been working to dry things out, and sterilize waterers and treat them all with the proper meds and supplements. So far so good. Everyone clears up within a couple days of treatment.

I am almost ready for Christmas, but got a ways to go yet. We started decorating the tree finally and tonight we will finish it and the fireplace stockings...and I am going to go today and pick up wrapping paper so I can wrap a few things tonight. I have such a bad back, wrapping gifts is really really hard on it. But I HATE gift bags. I want pretty packages wrapped with bows because that is what my Mom did for me and it's special to me.

I hope that the chickens stay healthy so my Christmas and NYs are better this year! Fingers crossed.

I prefer wrapping too . Fingers crossed for you and your babies too.

Spent the day cleaning in the yard. Bloody bleeping beetles have been killing my agaves. I never thought I'd be cleaning up pounds and pounds of the things all at once! Maybe I should learn how to make tequila since I have so many worms from them. Well, at least the chickens enjoyed the feast.

Sore and tired tonight but in the best way. Feels good to look outside and only see about half as many dead agaves. Hopefully can get the rest done tomorrow.

Boy, I'm having a big money day. Sold 2 doz eggs and and have both boys sold. Though one is a KHS donate. I remember the days when I made big $$ working and was stressed and a bit miserable. Today I made $20 and later $25 and feel completely rich and accomplished. Funny how that works. Stashing egg $ and chick and chicken money is good fun. It sure adds up when you don't have to pay bills with it

Yes, I have a partially herniated disc and disc degeneration that has caused a lot of nerve pain and back issues. When I stand for more than about 5 mins, I start losing feeling in my legs. It's no fun!

Rat removal and run renovations sound like my life too! I seem to have foiled them for the time being, but I feel it's only a matter of time. Did I tell you the rat trap I bought appears to be a joke to them? I watched four of the little jerks go in and get trapped...only to squeeze right out through the holes!!! SOOOO not cool. Then I watched them climb the door and try getting in through the gap in the door at the top--so I had to stick hardware cloth in the gap. BUT, I have gone 3 full days with food in the chicken coop feeders! Although I have found a bunch of missing siding to the coop where they are chewing it trying to get thru. I might be hiring some rat exterminators in the New Year! GRR. Gotta order the bucket lid too! My daughter was scarred the other night when I sent her out to check on things because the neighbor cat had apparently snuck into the backyard and caught a rat and she heard screaming and hissing and growling and came tearing in the house totally freaked out about the scary teeth of something murdering a rat. It's a good thing I love my chickens a ridiculous amount.

Okay, off to get wrapping paper and last minute things for my son's Christmas performance tomorrow!

Bloody rats! They are definitely taking the pee! Can you get your money back on the trap? It's obviously not doing it's job if they can get out.
Poor kid! I can imagine how scary that was
My rat expulsion today is a last ditch attempt to keep them out humanely. I don't like using snap traps after I saw a female blackbird caught by the neck, as a child. And I really don't like poison after what happened to Sylv. Like you, I think I'll be calling in the professionals if this doesn't work.

Well I didn't think they were gonna keep changing it to get worse! But now I'm getting xonxerned cuz I only covered 2 sides of the run...so I'm not sure.

I have almost 3 sides covered but I don’t know if it is enough of a wind break. The wind is now supposed to have gusts up to 45mph so out here…probably closer to 55mph. And the snow has gone up and temps have dropped more too since I posted last.

Yeah that's my concern as well...and the fact they keep changing it for worse conditions is beginning to freak me out.
I was down observing em all earlier...my d'uccles (namely Gabbie) is all puffed up and just sitting on the quilt rack perch in a corner. She's always been a loner but makes me wonder if she'll be able to handle any colder or not.
@AngBantamLuv has been concerned bout hers as well.
Hum...what to do what to do!
I know locking them in the coop during the day with 3 boys raring to go is not gonna be good overall.

I have 5 dozen eggs right now ready to sell. Im excited about it cause that alone will pay for their next feed bag. I love that they are able to basically pay for their owe feed and then some. Makes my case of getting more easier. I can’t wait to get some babies. I don’t know I could do it like you do but it would be fun!
