What did you do with your flock today?

Well, I get mother of the year.... 🐥
Went to water a plant in a pot this late afternoon. I water it good but b4 turning off spicket I pick up the over turned big water bowl that is stationed on that corner.. I have bowls of water and waterers everywhere, so one down is not big thing but I pick it up and there was a buff chick stuck underneath it. I have no idea how long she was there... could have been hours 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ though I thought it must not have been too terribly long because it moved quickly away and did not run for food and water immediately but honestly, If I had not gone to water that one potted plant with that hose and had the time (because I was really short on time) to turn that thing over I cringe to think... terrible. Chick stuck under a bowl. Who would have thunk it?!
Lucky chick and a great catch! ❤️
So today is my birthday 😁 29yo since your curious 🤥🤥🤥 lol.
Anywho, had a great date. I made penne pasta w/ Zucchini, mushroom and Parmigiano while DH cooked us Ono. We quickly packed up our dinners and took off on our bikes to Mana and had a picnic, standing up while eating with chopsticks. It was one of the most enjoyable meals/times/view I have had. We actually parked close to where his dad grew up. The house has been relocated and camp long gone but the 2 Mango trees that were in their backyard and that his dad ate from and played on as a kid are still there.View attachment 3355842
The history, good company and vast stillness made a perfect date. 5 ☆ forsure.
🎶 Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you.....🎶 Congratulations on turning 29! 🤣🥳🎂🎁🎈🎉 That sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate ❤️
Soooo, the rat found a spot to dig under. When we thaw out, that will be the next place to excavate and add another plate to block it. Someone once told us to put bread soaked in antifreeze for mice in vehicles. I'm afraid to do that, but just might. This rat resides in the garden which neither the chickens nor the cat can get into. Moles are getting ridiculous! So many hills. The bombs apparently didn't work. Going to put my cat's used litter down the holes when we thaw out. My neighbor came over and joked that I chased the moles over to his place. I think the babies made their way over there, and everywhere!
Finally finished decorating what little I have to put out, and strung the lights on the porch, after troubleshooting the cord and reconfiguring the arrangement. The main cord no longer functions properly.
Had a major baking fail today. Can't believe I didn't put the flour in my shortbread. Halfway through baking, I remixed it all with the flour and baked it. I was going to toss it, but hubby said no, it will get eaten. I hope so, as it has 1.5 cups of macadamias in it. It tastes ok, just more chewy. Raspberry Cheesecake in the oven for Christmas Eve dessert.
Chewy can be good! Glad it worked out. Raspberry cheesecake sounds devine ❤️
Well right now I’m setting at -18 with windchill which is only at 21mph (closer to 31in the flats where I am) and it could get up to 40mph. And then there is snow coming in sideways. And no, I don’t feel prepared at all! Part of that could be that it is my first and I’m over thinking a lot of it. But the chickens are out of their coop so I guess that is a bonus and the ducks are too. I haven’t had a chance to look at the goats, it is way too cold to be out to walk all the ground to get to them all at once. But my daughter went to check on their water and they were still alive and moving around.

Oh I’m sorry, I just read the advisory and it is 50mph and -40 by Friday 😭😭😭😭😭
Overthinking can be good on a first time 🤗 It sounds like your doing a good job prepping for the cold. ❤️

@TropicalBabies Also…I’m so glad you found your little one!!! That would have been terrible to have found later! Good job!!! Of course Happy birthday!!! Jealous of the beautiful weather you have!!! Soak it up for me or you could send some my way! 😁
I was looking forward to going to Mana and smelling the baked grass and feel of heat. No heat and was cold riding home. Not the -37° Denver cold but a little surprisingly cool and no baked grass smells.
At the base of the mountains there are MANY wild goats (cows and even donkeys + deer and pigs). I was also looking forward to hearing and seeing some wildlife in the eve but we chose the plain not mountain base for this adventure. So no sights, sounds or smells. Just quiet with a few birds.

I'm sending warm thoughts your way. Enjoy a cup of coco for me. Sounds like the birds got it handled already. I personally would lose sleep. So glad the kids are helping and checking. That is so cool ♡♡♡

@Gammas Bearded Babies @FBMcrazy8 What time are you folks expecting the weather? What kine are you expecting? Everything and then some? 😬 Are you feeling prepared now? 🤞😖🤞
Ours starts this afternoon...it must be moving faster than they originally thought cuz it wasnt supposed to hit this early...DH is gone to get straw bales to help block the area under the coop that attaches to the run...which is where they all are right now ciz that is the only open area besides a crack here and there.
Guess I'm as prepared as I can be since I was in denial it was gonna get too bad til yesterday!
Wind gusts are only at 10mph right now but supposed to get up to 40-50 mph at height of storm...and -6°F

Big day for me! I will be packing up Santa and other little LB cockerel to meet their new people.

Person I was supposed to meet yesterday sold me a used sewing table! Feel so grown up.

Santa slept in the orange tree last eve. A sure sign of too many boys. Then it rained plenty hard this early morning. 😒 😖 poor big dummy.

Happy birthday! What a lovely day you had ❤️. Sounds like my kind of birthday. DH took me to see snow leopards for my birthday, I've never been so excited! Those mangoes are huge and very beautiful. I do love trees though.

Wow! What a lucky chick! And a lucky escape for it too. It's amazing you decided to set the water bowl right, it would have been easy to just water the plant and ignore the bowl.
So your dh took you to Asia?! None in captivity right?? Wow ♡♡♡ that is very grand😁😉 We're you able to spot any?!

This is true. I hope they can get through today and tomorrow. I went out to break up water when I went to get their extra bowls. Filled it up with some cooked oatmeal…cooled off obviously, went back out and it had a layer of ice on it again. I don’t think they are able to drink with how fast it is freezing but they aren’t really moving either. More are going into their house though to hang out. I don’t want to put the water in there and create too much moisture and have more problems. I would rather go out every 5-10 min to break up the ice for them.

Oh that would have just been beautiful!! I love areas where they have wild animals that would otherwise be pets in my area. It’s different but just so beautiful to see!

I’m really hoping they pull through today and tomorrow. I am a nervous wreck but I am finding myself going outside to check on them all every second I can. I have 5 eggs so far today so I guess that is a positive sign. Im having lots of coffee and coco today. I even went to the grocery store to make sure I had everything I needed before it all happened. And coco was on the top of the list.

This was about an hour ago, my phone didn’t want to work even though to take one so maybe I can get ones later. But this is one side of the chickens coop and then you can see some of them under the house but there was a few inside too. The ducks are under their house as well, which I’m not sure why. Under their house there isn’t a wind break. Such goofballs. And the goats have been hanging out in their house as well. Luckily, because it isn’t completely done for their bedding to go in all of it, their food and water is inside this area too and it won’t get their bedding wet.

Oh, my! That's 41 degrees colder than we are! DH has family there, so he'll be checking in with them, I'm sure.
It is brutal here.

I gave in and put the chickens water in their house. I have one chickens whose comb is turning a little grey on the ends. Super nervous about that! I’m hoping it’s just the stress of the cold. They just have to get through the rest of today and tomorrow. Crazy that next week we will be in the 50s!! Wish it would hurry cause I don’t want this weather. Those in Alaska and Canada can keep this…
