What did you do with your flock today?

Yeah I did not take into consideration the blowing snow at all! I hadn't gone down to look yet but my boys are doing their usual so that's good! I'm trying to wait for the sun to come up as the winds are still fierce.
The coop did get to -2.6°F
Lord please let all my babies be ok!!!
Gonna make em egg casserole today and some warm oats with banana.
Silly me forgot one of my jugs of water outside...smh
I hope that everyone is ok for you too!!! It is rather warmer in their coop than outside thank goodness. I’m gonna have to make my chickens something good. They didn’t eat much of the oatmeal I made but really they didn’t eat much anyway yesterday until right before bed.

So, my lovely husband bought me a better coffee pot for Christmas. I bought just a $20 one to get me by but it sucked. I JUST got it the night before…so I used it ONLY yesterday. Only once…and the stupid thing isn’t working now!! It’s a Keurig Duo and for the money that was spent on it I really feel like it should work better. I’m hoping it is just cold, cause my kitchen is take the beating from this wind and it is cold in there. I took it to my dinning room in hopes that it will function better. Just giving it some time before I try. I will seriously cry if it doesn’t. :he:he:he

I just got back inside
Thank God they seemed ok but snow is all inside the coop covering the bedding. Like yours it won't melt anytime soon but I wonder if that's why it is so cold inside their coop!? But even under ordinary conditions the coop tends to be the same temp as it is outside. Just has a lower humidity than the outside weather.
I was out there 40 mins....half way through my toes and fingers went numb...nose and cheeks are all that otherwise feel awful.
Hard to breathe out there it's so cold!
Cathy (d'uccle) is the only one that came out of the coop. Then she quickly went back inside!
The lil babies were standing in front of the heater stand and the lil cochins were on top of it roosting.
Poor Bambi had snow.all over the tips of her feathers on her head.
I gave hot egg casserole with their feed and I rigged up a smaller waterer with poultry cell on the porch of the coop at the door I'm hopes they will come grab a drink!
There was no chatter from em at all and even the boys aren't crowing now.
Lord help everyone and everything pull through this nastiness!
Power is going out in areas all over Nashville. We still have it here...

Luckily I think I stopped a lot of the snow from coming in last night but I left the one ventilations open that I did, so that they still had good air flow. But what is happening is we put a roof over the ventilation holes and the nest boxes. The wind is hitting the wall and shooting straight up and the only other way out is through the holes. With the snow moving with the wind, it is easily being blown inside. I’m not letting the chickens out today. It is worse than yesterday out and the ones that stayed outside, stayed in one spot, didn’t eat or drink all day. And they had frozen faces, combs and wattles. They have great windbreaks but for whatever reason they huddle together in the direct wind.🤦‍♀️ Also I have one who is missing feathers on her neck. I might even have more like that but I haven’t seen them yet if they are. I know my rooster was on top of her trying to stay warm so I think her chin feathers froze to the ground. He is always trying to lay on someone. I will go out and check on them and make sure they are ok throughout the day but I can’t let them be silly again in this weather. I really thought they would have been smarter and move inside or move around outside and they did not. The ducks did the same thing. But we brought them in because there is only 4 and the coop was built for more than that ( as we based it’s size on our original ducks we had) so they aren’t able to keep as warm.

I have been in for about an hour and my toes are still frozen. It is WAY cold outside. The exact reason I don’t live in Canada or Alaska. I’m not built for this weather. Bring on 100 degree temps!!! I will take it!! I normally hear my rooster crowing but I hear nothing. It could be that the wind is carrying it way but even out there he hasn’t made any noise. I hope yours gets through this just fine! I’m glad I’m not the only one who has snow inside the coop! It stinks for the both of us but I have read a post where it happened to someone else last night too. Hopefully we never have to do this again, but if we do, we know how to fix it!

I haven’t heard of power going out yet around here but we are kinda ready for it if it does. We have 2 generators and one worked and then suddenly stopped working so…yeah…none are actually working. 😂 completely useless. But we planned around it! Thank goodness!

It is bad cold! My toes n nose are still numb too!!! And I've been in and hour.
I saw the 8 week olds going into the run looking for their mash so I headed back out.
I had two that I had to bring iinto the garage...one's head completely ice and the other had a layer of snow from head to tail! How?!
I hear ya!
DH hooked up a small heater triple tied to help dry out the coop bedding.
I got a govee thermostat in there and watched the temp like crazy!
Lizzie and Bambi are in garage under heat lamp...thawing out but reckon I should try and dry the melted snow n ice off of em or just let em be?
They hate each other as Lizzie is head hen and Bambi is lowest in flock next to babies!
Anyone got any ideas bout how warm it would get at this low a temps if it did start to catch fire inside run?
The temp is going up a little inside with the little heater going to dry out the bedding but I'm desperately afraid of it catching on fire!

Wow @FBMcrazy8 and @Gammas Bearded Babies! Good job you ladies are doing in such awful weather ❤️. I'm shivering just hearing about it! I'm so glad everyones making it through ok though. It sounds like you're both working hard for it. Do you guys know how much longer this is supposed to last?
Hoping you both get a warmer and wonderful Christmas!

@ChicksnMore and @TropicalBabies
No fire...it is slowly warming the coop...up to 8.4°F
I just wonder what kind of spike would I notice in temp if it began to try and catch on fire?
I really don't have much brains (common sense) at all...but especially when things are out of ordinary. I stupidly took my glove off to feed them wet mash cause they aren't eating hardly at all...dumb dumb dumb!!!
Coco has frostbite on tips of his comb. Gonna go try n figure out how to treat that
..and when.
Things aren't supposed to get to even freezing until Tuesday!
Praying this wind dies down soon though as it is still making it -20 windchill.

So today is my birthday 😁 29yo since your curious 🤥🤥🤥 lol.
Anywho, had a great date. I made penne pasta w/ Zucchini, mushroom and Parmigiano while DH cooked us Ono. We quickly packed up our dinners and took off on our bikes to Mana and had a picnic, standing up while eating with chopsticks. It was one of the most enjoyable meals/times/view I have had. We actually parked close to where his dad grew up. The house has been relocated and camp long gone but the 2 Mango trees that were in their backyard and that his dad ate from and played on as a kid are still there.View attachment 3355842
The history, good company and vast stillness made a perfect date. 5 ☆ forsure.
Happy 29th birthday!! 🥳 Sounds like a perfect way to celebrate!! ❤️
