What did you do with your flock today?

@ChicksnMore and @TropicalBabies
No fire...it is slowly warming the coop...up to 8.4°F
I just wonder what kind of spike would I notice in temp if it began to try and catch on fire?
I really don't have much brains (common sense) at all...but especially when things are out of ordinary. I stupidly took my glove off to feed them wet mash cause they aren't eating hardly at all...dumb dumb dumb!!!
Coco has frostbite on tips of his comb. Gonna go try n figure out how to treat that
..and when.
Things aren't supposed to get to even freezing until Tuesday!
Praying this wind dies down soon though as it is still making it -20 windchill.
I think you're doing great and deserve a lot more kudos then you're giving yourself ❤️. Your good common sense just put your birds welfare over your own...lol. Hope your poor fingers have warmed back up!
Love the heater temps your getting. I'm betting a fire would go crazy hot fast. Got my fingers and toes crossed for you!

Well right now I’m setting at -18 with windchill which is only at 21mph (closer to 31in the flats where I am) and it could get up to 40mph. And then there is snow coming in sideways. And no, I don’t feel prepared at all! Part of that could be that it is my first and I’m over thinking a lot of it. But the chickens are out of their coop so I guess that is a bonus and the ducks are too. I haven’t had a chance to look at the goats, it is way too cold to be out to walk all the ground to get to them all at once. But my daughter went to check on their water and they were still alive and moving around.

Oh I’m sorry, I just read the advisory and it is 50mph and -40 by Friday 😭😭😭😭😭
OMG no! That sounds horrific!! 😩😩

Over here in the tropics I am enjoying a beautiful pink sunrise

Chooks are out chasing the Christmas lights already 😂 kind of like the dog catching the car.
I'm 2 boys lighter today and it sounds great. Normal. Nice. Both boys were well homed and I could not be happier. I've made new chicken people friends. ♡ bye bye chickens!

After being in town yesterday I am looking forward to being home and catching up on a few things.
A super big treat for me last eve was all chooks where they were supposed to be at bed time! Spider and Beetle have grown closer and with more respect fending off the new genes of Santa. They were roosting pretty close together. Spider with his select few of refined ladies, Beetle with a big handful of silly girls. It was very fun and charming to check in on them last eve and I look forward to more normalcy. Though, I will miss Santa... ❤🎅 and the little cuspid.

Ah warmth!!! N peace n quiet I bet is super nice!

Happy 29th birthday!! 🥳 Sounds like a perfect way to celebrate!! ❤️
The older I get.. ah... er... 29 is old lol. The more the extreme stillness and simplicity call to me. I'd go hide in my closet if I thought dh and the cats wouldn't follow me in... and I'd probably feel guilt for it being unorganized and unpainted.

@FBMcrazy8 and @Gammas Bearded Babies I am in awe of your fortitude to keep all your outside babies safe and warm 🥶🥶🥶 Sounds as stressful as my summers with 110+ weather! Constant checking, constant worry, only so many things you can feed and water them…blah! I LOVE my cold weather but that’s just WAY too cold! :-( I hope today is better!!

@Shetland lover I too LOVE snow leopards and go to our zoo specifically to see them! The family gets annoyed because I spend forever watching them and they get bored 😆 Soo pretty. 😍

I managed to find my holiday spirit enough to wrap a bunch yesterday and sort of decorate the tree. I usually do three times the amount of decorations, but waited too long to make it worth it! Today is a cookie exchange and then football 🏈 😁😁

It is bad cold! My toes n nose are still numb too!!! And I've been in and hour.
I saw the 8 week olds going into the run looking for their mash so I headed back out.
I had two that I had to bring iinto the garage...one's head completely ice and the other had a layer of snow from head to tail! How?!
I hear ya!
DH hooked up a small heater triple tied to help dry out the coop bedding.
I got a govee thermostat in there and watched the temp like crazy!
Lizzie and Bambi are in garage under heat lamp...thawing out but reckon I should try and dry the melted snow n ice off of em or just let em be?
They hate each other as Lizzie is head hen and Bambi is lowest in flock next to babies!
Anyone got any ideas bout how warm it would get at this low a temps if it did start to catch fire inside run?
The temp is going up a little inside with the little heater going to dry out the bedding but I'm desperately afraid of it catching on fire!
I have a couple whose faces have like frozen snow on them and on their backs. I don’t want to send them into shock so I’m leaving them outside. But I just came back in from checking on them and the coop is at 6 degrees while the outside temp is -3 but with windchill is -29. I’m not letting them outside. Not even a choice. I just need them to get through all this and they won’t if I let them out. However if I have this happen again I am so prepared and I know exactly what to do. I have a heater for the chicken coop I was given but I don’t feel comfortable taking it that far out, let alone have it on without me being able to watch them. I am thinking though that when they can go out and the snow starts melting I am going to keep the chickens out for a while and plug it in. I’m gonna have it up high enough to keep it away from the floor but my hopes are to dry it out as well. Or I’m gonna be scooping it out and just getting new bedding.

Wow @FBMcrazy8 and @Gammas Bearded Babies! Good job you ladies are doing in such awful weather ❤️. I'm shivering just hearing about it! I'm so glad everyones making it through ok though. It sounds like you're both working hard for it. Do you guys know how much longer this is supposed to last?
Hoping you both get a warmer and wonderful Christmas!
Thank you! For myself it is for sure lasting today and it is supposed to be a tad warmer tomorrow. If 8 degrees is warmer 🥶 with 21/22mph winds.

Looks like you pulled it off @kurby! 🤩 very perfect looking 🎄 I can feel the holiday cheer from here. I still only have lights up and sure that is the way it will stay 😂
I'm with you on the summers. Losing pullets in the nest box to heatstroke etc etc. I savor my cool weather when all is basically perfect. Summer will come soon enough with its high heat and humidity and hurricane season 😖 I love my reprieve.

It sounds so cold for @Gammas Bearded Babies and @FBMcrazy8 I had to put on a blanket to read their posts. Burrrr. I don't envy you in the winters one bit. Sorry gals and hope all make it through 100% a bit wiser and more confident for the next extreme storm.
I have a better plan for the next one but I really hope I don’t have to deal with this again for a long while!!!
