I had a rooster with a broken leg and it took some time- a few months to heal but it did 100%. Don't lose hope โก Sounds like he is going in the right direction.Ok! Thank you! I will see if I can find some too. He is stepping on it better the last 2 days. He isnt hoping so much. Before the last 2 days he was barely using it at all to move, barely putting it down. Now he puts it down and movesโฆvery slowly but moves.
LUCKY you caught that! Danger lurks around all corners (and netsDid I tell you guys about poor Bruno, my OD rooster, hurting himself?I was out doing chicken chores and as I neared the gate to the run I found him hanging upside down from the bird netting by one leg
I untangled his foot and set him down and re wouldnโt put weight on it and was hiding in the cornerโฆso I brought him inside so he could rest without harassment. Iโm hoping he just sprained it and with some time will be back to normal. Heโs back outside and roosting and such, but heavily favoring the hurt leg. Poor Little Dude. I swear, being a chicken is hard.

Absolutely stunning babies โกThis round my incubator has different age eggs so only 4. Next eggs will hatch around the 25th. The dwarfs are little birds...just a bit bigger then the oegb's and a lot fluffier. Most of them are mottled over black breasted red colors or Millie fluer colors.View attachment 3377750View attachment 3377751View attachment 3377752View attachment 3377753View attachment 3377757View attachment 3377771
I sure hope the Shetlands make it long term. They sound delightful. My friend wanted these guys true breeding and to become a recognized breed. I'm not so sure...I think part of what I love is the diversity. Mainly I worry they'd be bred for looks over all else and end up poor layers. My oegb's lay less than half the number of eggs these guys do and they're not quite as healthy as a breed. If it happens, I hope the breeders remember to breed for the whole chicken package even in the bantam sized.
Gladys sounds like a stunnerSo does Stan and his relatives
. When you describe Stan and families colors ..I wonder if they're lavender rather then blue. Both dilute black to shades of grey. Blue leaves the brown colors alone and doesn't breed true, and lavender dilutes the browns to cream/straw colors and breeds true. The roos show more black then the hens ...take black breasted red...the roos have a black breast and the girls a chocolate, reddish brown colored breast.
He is very pretty!!! At least he is goodโฆeven if you never breed him. I just LOVE the one black one in the second pictureโฆjust absolutely gorgeous!!!View attachment 3376929View attachment 3376924expecting to see the blonde and EE โ in a box any minute now
And then there is this...

Going to split Roo pen and set up 1/2 for cockerel. View attachment 3376934He is early to mature and Spider & Beetle don't seem to be disciplining him much IMO. Don't want the girls mated by him plus POL pullets arnt happy.
He is a looker and good boy though. Wish I had some interest in him...![]()
Iโm very hopeful he pulls through. I have tried to put the water and food near him so he doesnโt have to go so farโฆ but then he just moves across the kennel to the farthest point from it. He does get over to it though. Iโm just really hoping he doesnโt end up loosing his whole leg.I had a rooster with a broken leg and it took some time- a few months to heal but it did 100%. Don't lose hope โก Sounds like he is going in the right direction.
Every once in a while we all need a recharge. Itโs good for you! Iโm glad you took it, even if you are behind. You may end up needing some helpers! It is so awesome that people are buying these bags!Well, good morning chicken people. I'm still waiting for the light. Going through my phone and deleting old, multiple and unnecessary photos. Enjoying my first cup of coffee, Forest on my lap and the sound of 10,000 roosters announcing the day.
More bag sewing today. I have all 5 stands dangerously low so once again I am behind. My fault. I took time to recharge and normalize instead of getting ahead of things. Picked up some bags from a brewery last week and sewing new bags always helps to motovate. Need to do the rounds on Thursday so gotta get my wiggle.
So far I have kept 100's- guessing over 300 bags out of the landfill and made hopefully well over that $$wise for my 2 causes. It is just staring to catch on!
So, light chicken chores only.
Looking forward to checking in and living vicariously through you all today.

Thank you! I too am hoping it isnโt as bad as it looks. Breaks my heart that I listened to what I read everywhere about how they should have the choice. Which yeah Iโm sure that some can figure that out but clearly not all. I really just thought they would have been fine when I let them out because they know to get out of the rain. Lesson learned, just wish it wasnโt on them, but then again when would I have learned this lesson.Poor sweet boy! Iโm so sorry you have to deal with this as fall out from the snow and coldHopefully itโs not damaged beyond repair. You are doing an amazing job with him
Thinking lots of good thoughts for him!
Iโm so sorry about Bruno! I hope it isnโt anything too terrible. At least you spotted him before it was worseโฆ.sending positive thoughts to you and Bruno!!Did I tell you guys about poor Bruno, my OD rooster, hurting himself?I was out doing chicken chores and as I neared the gate to the run I found him hanging upside down from the bird netting by one leg
