It's not the first time unfortunately. Sylv used to spread his seed all over my feet! First time I've got it in the face though!I get to laugh as I got gewed onetime by a cockerel too. Never would have thought![]()
Certainly did! He's a very bright little bird but he has absolutely NO common sense. He once made like a duck and jumped in whilst I was in the bath. Daft little bugger nearly drowned...So you almost had a roasted Ferdy? I sometimes save my pizza crust for the chicken's. I have to break it up so that they all can get a bite.
I'm glad that my rooster hasn't tried doing anything like that, but he's an outdoor roo and he has enough girl's out there to keep him busy so he hasn't thought about taking up a love affair with me.Certainly did! Ferdy is an outdoor roo too -mainly! He is house-trained and comes in for a couple of hours once the girls are in bed for t.v and snuggles. It started as he wasn't eating at all during the day (too busy with his ladies) and started losing weight so I started bringing him in to make sure his crop was full before he went to roost. He's a lovely little soul, very gentle and I can literally do anything with him. Fortunately - unlike his late father, Sylv - he hasn't formed a 'romantic' attachment to me, he just seems to like spending time with me. God knows why!I'm glad that my rooster hasn't tried doing anything like that, but he's an outdoor roo and he has enough girl's out there to keep him busy so he hasn't thought about taking up a love affair with me.
There's always more than enough to go round, Ferdy's just too generous to look after himself. He will never take a treat for himself if he can give it to a girl - or even his teenage son, Stan, if there's no girls near enoughHawkeye makes sure the girls get the treats and I always put enough out there that he can have some too. I have no problem with him getting enough food. I also have one of those 5 gallon feed buckets out there that they free feed from. I sure do love that thing and make sure that it is full whenever I know it's going to be raining or whatever the next day. That can last them a few days before I top it off again. I should check into the one's like that that they make for the water buckets too that have those cups in them.
Stan hatched 5th Sept 2022 and from day one Ferdy quite literally took him under his wing. I didn't worry for one minute that he'd hurt Stan and once Pru allowed Stan out of the nest, they foraged together as a little family. Ferdy was very protective of him. I think Ferdy is a very special little man, he doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body and if Stan turns out to be half the roo Ferdy is I'll be very happy. Here's a picture of the pair of them with aunt Penelope and granny Clara. That must be something to see when a male is treating another to treats.
I was just out at the coop and run trying to learn how to use this camera on this new cell phone that I have. I need to upload them into emailing them to myself before I can post them here I think.
